As an avid vehicle user and mostly infantry, I'm against this.
I understand that you're a HAV driver and read the Nerf Forge post too. When you say visible on mini-map, do you mean the HUD radar or the Tac-Net Overview map?
In both cases:
Think of vehicles as merely weapons. They are SP intensive, ISK expensive weapons that anyone can use should they put the resources into it. I'm seeing Forges and Swarms on every map yet never Nova Knives and rarely Laser Rifles. Vehicles are already the most obvious things on a battlefield, but to constantly keep them on Tac Net, regardless of it being unseen, is like a deathwish for anyone who orders a vehicle. Infantry can hide from Tac-Net, and very easily too. But if I were to per say have my LAV hidden and obscured from the overview map, then regardless of my tactics, everyone would still know where I am, and could easily use that to their tactical knowledge. Vehicles would never be able to "ambush".
Two guys separated by a wall are both enemies to each other. One is in an LAV. So one of them knows that the other is there even when they aren't seen by anyone. He pops an AV nade over the wall, game over for the LAV, who knew not of the other.
You see my point? It gives complete advantage to ground infantry in most all cases. Most of the time, Vehicles are always up on Tac-Net because someone can see them anyways.
If a tree falls in the woods, and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a noise? |

Because yah, it 's just stupid when my futuristic scanner (which can pick up a sniper shooting across the map) is oblivious to the giant speeding LAV running people down right around the corner from me... You can see snipers across the map usually because some one is trying to snipe them, not your module. You shouldn't also be oblivious to an LAV around the corner killing people because when the LAV kills them, it gets put up on TACNET. If you're not watching your back, that's your problem, that's how people get scouts blowing plasma into the back of their skulls with a shotgun. |

Vehicles should have a huge scan signature (large enough that they are on TACNET for a significant portion of time). Wan't to be sneaky in a LAV / HAV then invest in some sensor dampeners. Don't want to waste the slots, then expect that people will know where you are.
There are no profile dampeners for vehicles
And your story sounds pretty weird, but then again there have been issues with things not registering on TACNET before I believe. Should report it.
Also, because it's in real life, doesn't mean it should be here. It would totally put a damper on vehicle users and make the game overall less fun. |
