I believe he is talking about the small glowing green icon that is next to the Chat Tab when you activate your voice.
Yes, having that green symbol there means that you have the ability to speak there. It lighting up is usually by Default though. If your having difficulty using a Mic on your PS3 I can't help you. But if you want to at least be able to hear those in your Squad/Team without being able to speak to them here is what you do:
Step 1.) Open the PS3 XBM Menu using the PS button.
Step 2.) Go to Settings and from there scroll down to Accessory Settings and click X.
Step 3.) Scroll down to "Audio Device Settings" and click X.
Step 4.) You should now see 3 opions. Microphone Level, Input Device, and Output Device. Highlight Output Device and Click X and a small Arrow will appear under it. Scroll down until it says "System Default Device" and then press X.
Step 5.) Press "OK" and then exit the XMB menu.
What that does is output any Voice Chat options through your TV speakers so that you can hear people who are using Mic's, without actually having to use them yourself.
Now i'll explain about how Voice Chat works in DUST 514.
HOW TO: Voice Chat
DUST 514 is unusual from other shooters in many ways. One of which is the fact that the Voice Chat option is turned off by default upon starting the game for the first time and will not turn itself on unless it is turned on in the options menu. I'm going to list in steps how you turn on the Voice Chat.
Step 1.) Open your NEOCOM with L1.
Step 2.) Scroll down to the SYSTEM OPERATION tab near the botton and click X.
Step 3.) Highlight the OPTIONS tab and click X.
Step 4.) The first Options Menu that pops up is Audio, which is where you need to be, and you see 5 options. Music, SFX, Dialoge, Voice Chat, and Push To Talk. Highlight Voice Chat, Press X, and then change the Option to "ON".
Step 5.) After turning Voice Chat "ON" you want to go down to Push to Talk and turn it "OFF".
Now after completing those steps your Voice Chat will now be functional but you won't be able to talk to anyone unless your using the proper channels.
There are 6 Different kinds of Channels, and of those 6, 4 of them allow for Voice Chat and of those 4 only two of them allow for "FREE" voice chat while the other two require a UVT* in order to use them. Here are the six types of Channels:
-Notifications (No Voice or Text)
-Text (Text Only)
-Corp. (Text and UVT Voice)
-Squad (Text and FREE Voice)
-Team (Text and FREE Voice)
-Voice (Text and UVT Voice)
*UVT (Universal Voice Transmitter.) - Universal Voice Transmitters are biomechanical implants that provide personal access to subspace routers, allowing users to communicate instantly with one another wherever they may be. The implants degrade over tiem and cease to function when fully absorbed by the user - DUST 514
A UVT can be bought in the Marketplace for 10 Aurum.
Now, for the next step in activating your voice.
Step 6.) Open the Chat Tab with the Select button on your PS3 Controller.
Step 7.) Press "LEFT" on your D-Pad twice to ensure you see the full text of NOTIFICATIONS, LOCAL, CORP, and SQUAD.
Step 8.) Select Squad, and then press X. This opens another menu with the options to "CREATE SQUAD". Press X.
Step 9.) The Voice chat system should become aware that you are now in a squad and activate your voice for you. Your voice is represented by a Small Green Dot that sits near the name of the Channel your in at the upper left of the Tab. If this is not there please keep following the steps below.
Step 10.) Since you are now in a squad, you can click on the Squad Tab again for a new set of options:
-Activate Voice -Invite Player -LOCK -Leave Squad
I don't think i need to tell you which option to pick but i'm going to anyway.
Step 11.) Highlight "Activate Voice" and click X. You should then see the small Green Dot, which indicates an Active Voice, appear in the Squad Tab at the upper left corner of the tab itself as well as a small Speaker icon next to your name. This Icon will remain white until something is said through a mic upon which it will briefly turn green.
To activate your voice in another Tab, such as Team, you will follow the exact same process as listed while substituting which ever tab your trying to activate Voice in.
Hopefully i've answered all questions about Voice Chat. If i've missed something let me know.
Keep the faith. |
