Gotcha with the thread title.
Anyways I would like an update from CCP on the likelihood of us seeing proxychat in DUST. All of the OG's remember back before the noobs started asking CCP to nerf the game down we actually had some great conversations and debates in general discussion. Proxy chat was probably the most controversial topic discussed, and I would like to know whether or not we will be seeing this as a feature in dust in the near future.

You got me excited for a second. I too want to know that it is in the works. It should be a priority due to its effectiveness for communicating with randoms. |

The Great MAGtards EVEtards forum wars!!!!
Ah yes, these were the days when everybody was at each others throats about who knew what better. Good times, I still don't remember a good reason against the use of proxy but there will always be nay sayers to all things. |

They really need to find an elegant way to talk in multiple channels at once. Right now everyone hangs out in corp or squad. Still in favor of adding a "local" channel, but mandatory will never work so please don't try. |

Proxy chat would be great! CCP seems to know what it's doing when it comes to commas . They have the clearest voices in a game I've ever heard and all the channels available for voice chat make proxy chat not only reasonable but an awesome feature!! |

If proxy chat includes friendly only, yes, if it includes enemies only if i can make it PTT or somehow secure my comm channel to keep enemy scouts from overhearing our battle plans. Yes it would add an element of subterfuge which would be nice, but there should also a feature or module or skill that i could use to protect my comms as well then, conversely to make subterfuge possible there should be skill or module that would allow me to break those defense slightly by hearing comms through white noise or something. |

Proxy chat! Proxy chat! Proxy chat!
WE WANT IT
But as a clarifier, it should have to be relatively close by to hear it, and get progrewsively more and more faded out the farther you are from the player. |

I would have so much fun with proxy in dust.
this is a feature all modern FPS's need, it gives such a layer to the gameplay.
Like I was talking about jewd's HMG ripping me apart as I saw he was around a corner, if he could hear my cries for help maybe I would have been saved instead of murdered with the rest of randoms in the battle. hahah |

For allies, I see no reason against it... but if we implement it for enemies to overhear our comms, then there'd be no reason to use the inherent chat over externals like Teamspeak. Sure overhearing the enemy is cool, but if it's a liability then no one will take the risk. |

The answer def looks like skills. Proxy is always on for your team but enemy needs to skill up to hear it. The first level of hacking coms can hear people with no conter-measures. You level up your ability to hide your coms and your ability to hack coms. Maybe get WP for gathering Intel, or blocking it from the enemy. Figure you should get rewards for it to keep people from using 3rd party chat. Maybe have it as a squad skill so only one person needs it.
Also we should have squad skills. |

If in-game comms are not secure, no one will use them, plain and simple. If people drop the mandatory expectation then this would be an idea everyone will get behind. Otherwise you risk talking to no one but yourself. |

No one was really against proxy chat in the old debate. As one of the most vocal nay-sayers in the previous debate in the days of olde, the main argument against proxy chat was that if it's a mandatory thing, people will look elsewhere if they don't want to be heard.
Having another channel inside the match that is optional to join but allows you to smacktalk people is the better option, and I have no issue with it.
Points were also made that if there was a module/equipment for eavesdropping & viable countermeasures, it'd be less of an issue as well.
But as something that would just always be there, and always be on, It's an undesirable feature.
A point the people who were rooting for proxy chat often made in the debate was "It also lets you talk to nearby friendly squads"
I wouldn't mind this being the case, personally. But again, this should be an optional feature. I don't want to be forced to mute multiple people because they won't shut up and I can't hear my own squad over them talking about nothing relevant to the match. The same is true in reverse. I often find myself in squads where we're not really talking about the match at hand, but we're discussing random stuff about dust or threads on the forums. Other people don't need to hear that if they are trying to communicate with their own squad. |

this was never a problem with proxy chat. You dont hear people constantly as if they are in your squad, and they were not as loud.
The other problems you speak of: hearing multiple voices talk over each other is because the in match comms in this game have no hierarchy - like MAG. A hierarchy needs to be implemented to make sense of the 'voices', and I think I read somewhere CCP plan to do this. |

Great Post Nova.
Thing is, I don't see it becoming an issue if you can hear enemies that are near by out of your TV while you have squad (whatever channel you are talking in) coming from your mic. If you don't have one or you don't have it plugged in then there could be confusion.
I don't see why it'd be such a big deal even in corp matches. cause if someone is talking a bunch of crap over proxy, his squad isn't hearing what they need to hear cause of him talking over proxy.
and what of the option the UVT gives you. What if you couldn't be heard while not in squad / team chat? So just have the battle comms be a special chat channel. If not everyone has UVT then there is that.
(I don't like to mention features that aren't here yet, but channel wide UVTs? just invite your guys and have the channel turned on with that.. but impossible to know about that feature yet.) |
