Playing solo is/should be a viable option. Of course, in that case, some of the fruits that this game offers (when published) will stay hidden from you. Owning districts or planets, fighting for large and important assets that influence many in EVE might be out of reach to you. Tho, that is not necessary a bad thing. Many in EVE never fly a Titan, tho their gameplay is fulfilled.
That is a beauty of New Eden -- there is a whole universe out there, you chose how and what you take of it.
Let me give you my example. I am part of a corporation that is based on corporate/business model, not military. Inside my corp there are great freedoms as to how one is approaching the game; how much is one willing to participate, what is willing to offer (knowledge, skills) and what (responsibilities) to take. In Tritan Industries one might be just a trader and hauler on EVE-side and never even fight in DUST, or one may be the first on Leaderboards by most kills.
Among other thing to consider, when choosing to go solo or find a group, is the way you play. My wife, for example, is a Heavy suit player. Tbh, I hardly can imagine how would that look like if there is no group to back her on long run. If you are a Pilot, again for example, you must calculate very good will freelancer taxi service or duty of blowing things up for unknown others be viable at all. Are you ready to spend n days grinding ISK with a suit you don't like just for a moment of GG? And even then, common sense says that some play-styles are made for group (and to be fun at all).
In EVE I am mostly into exploration (so kinda lonewolfish) and in DUST I am a multi-purpose Scout. My play-style is solo, and even without communication with a team, I may benefit it greatly with various set-ups of my suits (even tho I am miserably low on skill-points). Usually I play solo public games with open comms, if I stumble upon someone who does the same.
Saying this, doesn't mean I never play with my corp-mates, of course. And by finding me a corporation like TI I have basically opened myself the best of both worlds, so to say.
If you are not neurotically afraid of 'polluting' your corp history, I'd say go give it a try. You can always go back to NPC tax collectors. |
