In this part of beta testing it should be time to start thinking on the command interface. Granted, it only affects few people. And most dev time should be used in improving the core gameplay.
BUT we can start planning on the Team Commander (TC) interface! Reasons are that it will probably be better if we tell what should be there before hand than let dev's do something and complain later... =P Also, even tho TC's are few among players, chances are they're able to add more to the game if they have the right tools. And easier for new TC's to get in...
(Sorry CCP, this is in a form of a list as it is a one whole concept which doesn't even exist yet.)
1) Mouse control for pointer. SElf-explanatory.
2) Visual id on different squads/squad leaders on map
3) while hovering the cursor over a friendly, it will display the name, and possibly some details.
4) TC has an option to open up a list of all his men and their status (dead/spawning/alive). Possibly listing their suit type (sc/hvy/aslt/logi) and perhaps even fitting name. Imagine command post on movies like Predator2 and Aliens etc.
5) TC can set, in addition to his normal order like sq leaders, targets for each squad. The reason is to easily move squad to different positions, as it is very unlikely that we will call randomly spawned terrain by names (aka Hamburger Hill etc=)
6) Possibly waypoints too?
7) TC will be able to call in vehicles for people (Imagine "red squad, move 100m to next intersection, there'll be an apc waiting for you")
8) TC will be able to call in strikes (precision/orbital/aerial). How this interacts with/replaces squad based war points and strike calling is another topic.
9) TC will be able to call in installations (when implemented. Another topic.)
10) More orders: for example, Create Uplink here etc. |

I like it all and agree with it except #7, might be a bit of an issue since vehicles are mostly player owned. However, I'm sure there will be if there isn't already corporate hangars. Whoever does the Commanding would mostly likely have a role applied to them (Call it Facility and Vehicle Deployment Officer) for instance. Also 7 and 9 wouldn't be mutually exclusive unless it would be better to separate that into two different roles. Number 8 might be a bit of a stretch, I'm half thinking that maybe they could get rid of warpoints eventually, or just drop them and make deployments and precision and OB strikes timed with a cooldown period of several minutes or more. OBs especially could be given a timer where the cooldown period is dependent on the weapon size. Right now it's all small turrets, say 3 minutes between each possible OB. |

Thanks for the input. I also urge everyone to throw their ideas, doesn't really matter how wild they are at this stage. So there's really no need to start bashing anyone for giving their ideas. That's how brainstorming works! |

Voice communication should be part of the discussion. Right now it's either team or squad (or corporation) - and if you're in one you can't talk or hear in the other channels. Squad leaders should be able to at least hear the Commander. Maybe a command channel for team commander and squad leaders, switchable between command and squad channels using the "push to talk" d-pad button to switch channels. |

I believe those installations/vehicles would be corporation assets, so no need for upped ISK rewards to commanders.
edit:
And one consideration to take account for is, should these be part of hisec matches aka pubmatches or more to lowsec and null features.
Going with the fanfest 2012 information, hisec matches would be more of these not somuch real impact on game universe, catering more to the instant gratification hopin hopout type of players. Where as in low and null thins begin to mean something and matches can become 'unfair' in sence that there can be uneven number of players in match. |

I love the forum but i think the installations should fall soulfully on the commander, because squads don't get much organized then themselves and its safe to say that a team cap on installations would be applied so having five or six people wasting installations for their own benefits wouldn't lean towards teamwork. However squad leaders need to have more power then giving simple orders to his or her squad. That's why i support having squad perks for squad leaders ( faster shield regeneration, run 10% faster, etc.).
Second is the way squad leaders and commanders communicate. I do like having a squad channel and a "command " channel, but it occurred to me that what if a commander is giving commands and a squad leader isn't in the command channel to hear them. Well the commander should be able to do one or both of two things.
1. the commander should be able to temporarily switch any squad leader to the command channel at any time in battle. or 2. the commander can give a squad leader a specific order (not through chat) to then interrupt to the squad
And if a squad or squad leader decides not to follow orders the commander can deduct their pay. |

The shield regen and sprinting and all that are nice. Definitely part of the Leadership line of skills would be the place to put that. Definitely when it comes down to it vehicles and installations should be commander selected. |

Coming back to this thread after a while, and giving an additional note:
If someone says that there's voice and you can do any thing by that, while true, it doesn't take into account that there are only so many things you can do on single channel.
All what I suggest would be in addition to voice comms, and make it clearer for more important stuff. |

Sounds like some pretty awesome ideas. A few of them I always considered would already be on the devs list but in case they weren't I hope they take a glance here.
Just a few other things I think would be nice:
- Commander can only be heard by squad leaders. This probably was the case already but let just put it out there just in case.
- And the maps should get a grid overview . Not only for the Commander's point of view but for everyone. It may not seem like the most useful but it can definitely come in handy.

Update for uprising:
11) Team Commander should be able to yield the battle: Meaning when defender knows that they will give up and risk no more clones (likely very close to reaching minimun loss of 150 clones). This would avoid the boring part of watching the MCC health slowly wither away.
12) Ability to drag and drop to people into squads
13) Corp members would have Roles as if certificates: Corp leaders might name some roles like 'ProtoForger' or 'DS pilot' or 'L337 Sn1per'. That way it would be easier to see, choose and allocate members for battle. Remember, some corps have hundreds of ppl.

Commander options like battlefield 2 ( pc exclusive )
Squad leaders are presented in a list at the side if the screen, squad leaders can be selected and given orders from a list of commands ( move here, attack this, defend that, place mines here, destroy this object ) Commander gives squad leader order, squad gets the order as a whole to follow that order.
Commander gets bonuses like radar over a small area on the map he/she selects to reveal enemy units on the map for a short time.
Commander gets ability to call in something like artillery strikes or npc bomb run........ mcc attacks using missle fire perhaps?
Commander gets ability to deploy support objects to allied units ( installations ) such as if you have a mouse, right click menu drops down, select instillations, select instillation type.

CCP needs to begin working on a Commander/MCC mode, or at least make a match type that will support the role by not making the MCC the primary objective. However, I feel like there are still other things that are more important for them to work on right now - namely balancing, EVE economic integration, and Planetary Conquest. I say this even with the pressure that the Battlefield 4 Commander Mode will undoubtedly put on DUST.
In short - good suggestion, and a good idea to get the ball rolling, but I don't want a player having to command over an unfinished battlefield. I see the mode coming to DUST in about 1y 6m to 2 years, and in a very basic iteration when it first arrives. |

Even if it is not a tablet connected feature, at least something from Eve or in Dust itself would be a GREAT feature. |
