So I thought about how to make Prototype suits worth their price. Sure they give an advantage, but its a small one since they got nerfed to Standard level in Armor and Shields.
My idea is this, currently what happens is the dropsuit has a base shields of 125 (all assault dropsuits, except B and VK.1), then the system checks for skills that raise the shield amount, and then it adds modules. What I'm showing below is with the skill Shield Control V. Its also with a Militia shield extender, but it applies to all extenders.
For standard we're going to keep the same formula: (125*25%)+125+22=178.25 shields
22 is the shield extender 125 is base shields 25% is the amount Shield Control V adds to your shield
Next we have Advanced gear:
It will halve the module bonus into two. The first half it will be put on the shield BEFORE the skill bonus. Then the skill applies. Then the other half adds up. So basicly: (125+15.6)*25%+(125.5+15.6)+15.6 = 191.35 shields
15.6 is half the shield extender 125 is base shields 25% is the amount Shield Control V adds to your shield
Now for the prototype: This time, it will add all of the shield extender on the shield before adding the 25%. Then we'll add the shield extender again.
So basicly: (125+22)*25%+125+22+22=205.75 shields
This way, the Prototype version actually gets +80 shields, but the more extenders you add the less of an effect they have.
(125+22+22)*25%+125+22+22+22+22=256.75
Each extender adds 65.8 in this case, instead of 80.
NOTE: I'm almost sure my math is flawed somewhere, if you find a mistake please correct it, thanks :)
The point of this system is to give a choise for Prototype players, either get shields and armor and protect their suits, or add other modules. This way they can't have the best of both worlds like before. Also, this change applies to Armor aswell.
Here is an alternative, its less complicated.
Add two skills called Advanced shield boost and Prototype shield boost.
Advanced shield boost once fully trained, will give Advanced suits 7.5% extra shields, in addition to the normal shield boost.
Prototype shield boost once fully trained, will give Prototype suits +15% extra shields, in addition to normal shield boost AND Advanced shield boost.
So if you got fully trained shield skills, you get 25% + 15% + 7.5% = 47.5% extra shields for Prototype gear.
I prefer the first one because the second one allows Prototype suit users to eat their cake and have it too.
Last alternative: Reduce prototype stuff price. |

I agree with the alternative, however. Prototype suits shouldn't have a remarkable advantage, but they should be cost effective. Thanks for the feedback. Well you see, the problem before the nerf was that because Dropsuits came with a higher amount of Armor/shields, people could just forget about armor/shield items and go to weapon damage and other things. After the nerf, you have to choose either Armor/shields or other modules, but its not cost effective at all. With the first idea out of three, you still have to choose, but Prototype and Advanced gear is much more cost effective. The second idea makes them flat out better, but not by too much, it just makes you more flexible. The third keeps them the same but at a reduced price. |
