Theses are my predictions.NOT TRYING TO START A FLAME WAR! These are educated predictions.This will show how each one handles the following: Exclusives,Hardware/Power,Online support, and Sells(Specifically how each will sell) Here it is
Xbox 720:
HARDWARE/POWER:It has been said it will use a AMD chip.It will more than likely have architecture similiar to PCs and may be easier to develop for.There is recent rumors that it will 3x more powerful than the PS4.This could hurt Microsoft more than benefit it.(Explained in SELLS)Microsoft has confirmed it wants to make the Xbox brand Family friendly which means who knows how it can affect it.It could be that the power will be meant for Kinect 2.Even if it is this powerful it will only be shown through exclusives and since Multiplat games are meant to be the same all around it will make little difference even increasing development costs
EXCLUSIVES:With the current official Information it will be in last place in terms of exclusives.It may get hardly any exclusives at all.The currently planned exclusives for it are Halo 5 and(May be on 360)/or Halo 6.Microsoft has confirmed they no longer care for exclusives.Halo 6 will be the last Halo meaning possibly no more exclusives after.However Microsoft more specifically said they no longer care for exclusive ips.So even if Xbox 720 gets a large amount of exclusives it will always be from an existing franchise.(This could impact owners negetively)
ONLINE SUPPORT:From Microsfts history it will have Xbox live.Little more needs to be said.
SELLS:If 720 uses its same architecture it will be around the price of the other platforms.Its sells can be severly effected due to the little amount of exclusives if predicted correct.The rumor that it will be 3x more powerful than PS4 is highely unlikey.The production cost will be significantly higher than the other platforms.If theses rumor is true it will likely be about $200 more than its competitors.This will result in much less sells just likethe PS3 to 360.Also it would increase development costs meaning the other competitors would be favored by 3rd parties or Multiplat Companies.
Steambox:
Exclusives:With hardly any info theres no telling how it could be in terms of exclusives therefore wont be judged by it.It may not get any at all.Valve favors PC above all else so the closest it may get is games for PC & Steambox.HL3 has been rumored as exclusive but this is highly illogical,obsurd even.
HARDWARE/POWER:Completly unknown other than it will bridge PC and Console
Online Support:Steam
Sells:It could be targeting a different audience than its competitors thus not competing at all.Its price should be around PS3 was at lauch.This is due to the fact its meant to built to be around as powerful as a gaming PC.This could hurt it but with so little Info we will have to wait and see.
PC:Nuff said Just Kidding
EXCLUSIVES: PC has & will always have more exclusives than its competitors.However they are usually Strategy or Indie games and are hardly ever form a High-Quality developer.Some High-Quality exclusives include Dota 2,Planetside 2,Company of Heroes 2.Indie games can be at the same level but are usually JUST below them.
HARDWARE/POWER: Completly up to the owner.
Online support:Depends.Usually Steam or Origin
Sells:Not much needs to be said since it doesnt really compete from anything other than games.This is due to the fact that it is its own category.Computers.
PS4:
EXCLUSIVES: The playstation brand is usually on top.Its exclusives are in high variety and quality some bieng some of the best games ever made for example Uncharted 2 is the most highly rated game overall this generation.This is due to the fact SONY owns some of the best developers in the industry and are in abundant amounts.Planned exlusives for PS4 so far are Killzone 4,Agent,Dust 514,Naughty dogs second team project(likely Uncharted 4) and 2 new ips from Guerilla Games and Sucker Punch.
Hardware/POWER:Like the steambox little is known.It will likely use a AMD chip.Since SONY no longer focuses on power it could be as easy to develop as,if not more,the 720.SONY has confirmed it will make PS4 3rd party friendly giving it a advantage.
Online Support:PSN.However SONY owns Giakai meaning it will most likely have MAJOR online support.
SELLS:With SONYs plan it will be 3rd party friendly like the 360.It will also be meant to be very affordable.If the rumor of 720 bieng 3x more powerful is true PS4 might beat it by a long shot.This would mean it would be cheaper and due to its possible new online support and amount of exclusives it could sell at a large profit and be favorable with development costs.

Not sure. I'll definitely get the PS4. Doesn't matter if the Xbox 720 is slightly or even 3x more powerful, they are focusing on Kinect and not bringing in strong exclusives, so to me, the 720 is dead. |

We already lose now as it is due to crap games and crap game companys
TBH we could do with one of the old consoles to drop and maybe a few game companys to crash and reset the industry
If anything the STeambox could be the deal breaker and it may have linux on it, if it does happen xbox will drop instantly tbh maybe PS4 may hang on for a bit longer |

It depends. PS4 will remain the king of consoles in my opinion so long as it has free online mode, paying for Xbox live is a dealbreaker in every way.
And of course PC will always be on top, but that really isn't a fair fight. |

Why does overclocking even matter to a "locked down so tight your eyes water" console with little memory and ancient in two years graphics GPU? |

I think a deciding factor will be digital distribution pricing/availability and hard copy game resale options. More than likely most systems will push for digital distribution for the majority of game sales.
The PC is already dominating in this realm with Steam and many other digital distribution stores. While Sony sells digital copies of games at prices that aren't competitive. You can buy a used hard copy cheaper or wait for a Steam sale and get it for 75%off if you are on PC. Plus digital copies just don't go down in price over time on PSN Like they do on PC digital markets.
Hard copy games will probably continue to exist for consoles but resale options are already diminishing. Especially multiplayer games.
I don't know how the Xbox digital market compares to PC but Sony has a lot of convincing in that area before I make the upgrade.
Steam box could be interesting but since I can build my own computer I would rather just do that. Might be a good middle ground for some though. |
