In the DUST 514 (www.dust514.com) - FPS/MMO Hybrid from the people that brought you eve online. A Proto-bear is a character who stays in proto gear and never ventures into unsecured armors such as standard or militia in fear of getting merced. The Protobear will grind and no life their way into top tier gear as soon as possible.
The Protobear often has rage fits which is evident of its constant QQ threads. If provoked the protobear will immediately challenge you to a corp battle. This behavior is believed to have originated from their handheld video game roots. Such as Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Digimon. They will often challenge any offender to a duel or battle. Protobears are often found roaming in packs.
Protobears personality is reminiscent of a 14 year old with self esteem issues and an internet based upbringing, or some 40 year old virgin who dry humps his controller and system for 23 hours a day. They will often forget that Dust 514 is a videogame, and when they brag about their skill (the ability to aim a cross hair on a target while strafing/jumping) it does not mean much to the casual gamer/civilian. The Protobear finds refuge in KD/R, Leaderboard Ranking, and similar stats, it provides comfort and growth to their e-peen.
Protobears are people who wants devs to develop/change games to make their gaming experience easy, safe, and cozy. No risk, no challenge, no realism. Cozy like their eve counterparts the carebear. They often will rage and QQ till their demands are met. Developers and gamers alike do well by letting the protobear weather its tantrum alone.

I felt sorry for those newbies getting owned with higher levels. But, that's how in Eve in universe, right? Don't buy things that you're afraid to lose.
I myself hated getting owned by protogears, but that's how it's going to be. This game ain't nothing like other FPS. When it comes to determining winning side, the players who has better gears will always win. The player with lower gears has to double their effort.

Get your own proto gear throw it on, if a proto bears fear is getting merc then those who dont wear those have a fear of getting gun down as well with a fear of losing money..seriously people get your game up grab your own proto gear then battle out the protobears... if gears the issue then if your wearing the same you can complain |

You know a thing about a protobear, he's got lifeless eyes, black eyes like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya he doesn't seem to be living - Until he shoots ya and those black eyes roll over white and then...oh then ya hear that terrible high pitched screamin'. The screen turns red. Despite all the poundin' and the hollerin,' they all come in and shoot you to pieces.
Y'know by the end of that first match- lost a hundred mercs. I Don't know how many protobears, maybe a thousand. I don't know how many mercs, they averaged six an hour. On Thursday morning, Chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herby Robinson from Cleveland, COD player and college student. I thought he was AFK. I reached over to wake him up and he... Well, he had been ripped in half below the waist by a Duvolle AR. |

Protobears also yell at the television because they die one time in a match even tho they drop over 40 kills that game. They also yell to their fellow squad bears about their turn-ons and 360 headshots. Most people dont realize there are different class of protobears as well. You have the pure protobears who range from 20-40 kills a game.....then you have the protobear wanna-be who go negative every match even in proto gear.
I have also documented some of those wanna-be protobears have posted in this thread O_o fascinating. |
