Okay so yea generally the opposite is true, but every now and again you might be pleasantly surprised to find someone with a comm who is just playing entering a match solo, doesnt mean they have a lonewolf attitude. I mean nothing but silence every game is really annoying and its nice to have a squad but really if you go team chat you can still talk to your squad and maybe you'll get one or two ppl in team chat waiting to hear a voice.
Still don't know why game doesnt start everyone in team chat and then if someone want to move into squad/corp chat they can. |

It probably defaults to squad chat thanks to all those people that would blast music into their headsets and other such bullshit back in the E3 build. All of us who were around back then tend to automatically avoid talking to our team because we're used to it not getting us anywhere. Honestly, 16 people in one channel with the push-to-talk function being garbage just leads to too much noise anyway. It'll only get worse once we're doing 24 players per team.
In any case, about the time I can combine Interact and Reload into the same button, set circle as Crouch, and triangle as PTT, I'll start using team chat. |

Yea im new to Dust didn't know how god awful it was. But TBH turn off PTT keep voice on and at the least scan the team chat in the beginning of the match before it loads or before you spawn, never know when you'll find a diamond in the rough Also i can tell you it is utter ghost town nowadays with the forced squad chat so even if ppl were blasting music you wont hear it unless they move to team chat which they prolly wont. |

I find this PTT or open mic discussion mainly stemming from two different playing cultures and experiences behind players.
Those that tend to prefer PTT have usually experienced the fun times of 24+ 64+ 100+ 500+ players on same voice comms and what kind of mess it can become.
Thise that prefes live mic usually come from background where imidiate reaction is preferrable and generally maximum players on same voice comm channel doesent exeed 24 or 64.
In latter case It is true that muting those few noisy players is quite easy.
But what if that player in midst of that coughing/breathing/blasting music actually speaks up and provides valuable intell that would save yous squad?
Also I might be argued that muting one or few persons might not be such a big deal, but usually the whole team ends up muting that player. So for one or few players the whole team gets to do something as opposed to just those few players using PTT.
edit:
But to OP, yes sometimes team chat suprices you in a good way. |

I've been trying to do this more. I rarely see anyone with a speaker symbol next to their name though. Is incoming voice chat still audible if that's the case? I frequently play in a scout sniper setup so I've got a good view of the battlefield. I don't bark orders, because I hate when people do that, but I do try to give people awareness of what's going on. |
