I like to say something here in the forums that I feel needs to be said.
This special day... this very day... December 21, 2012 is a very special and unique day that trumps all other days that I have experienced in my lifetime and perhaps mankind has ever experience since the dawn of civilization and recorded history here on Earth.
Think about it.
The Mayan calendar is a cyclical calendar based on the concept that life goes in endless cycles that has no beginning and no end and resets itself once every 5,126 years with 13 Baktuns (394.25 years each) in between each reset. The calendar began in August 11, 3114 BC or (in Mayan terms) 0.0.0.0.1 and has now finished at 13.0.0.0.0 today on December 21, 2012 AD. The 14th Baktun will begin tomorrow on December 22, 2012 AD or 0.0.0.0.1.
That is a long time to wait for a reset. Remember, even though the Mayans created the calendar they back dated it to 3114 BC which is long before their civilization even began. On top of that, their civilization did not last long enough to see the reset today. Only their surviving descendants in Mexico who live in small remote villages untouched by technology are here to witness it.
On top of that, the Earth, the Sun, and the center of our Milky Way Galaxy are in perfect alignment RIGHT NOW. That means that as you look at the sun, you are also look at the exact center of the galaxy at the same time.
On top of that even further, we are currently crossing the galactic equator of the Milky Way Galaxy from one side of the galactic plane to the other side. According to the ancient Mayans, this meant that the Earth is traveling from one world to the next and the start of a new era for mankind as a whole.
In essence, we are all now experiencing four major once-in-a-lifetime events in one day.
- The Reset of the Mayan Long Count Calendar at 0.0.0.0.1
- The End of the 13th Baktun and the Beginning of the 14th Baktun (or 1st Baktun, whichever way you see it)
- The Galactic Alignment of the Galaxy, Sun, and Earth
- The Crossing of the Galactic Equator
Now, what are the chances of you and me being born, raised, and grown up as humans and as a technologically advanced civilization to witness, understand, and admire the beauty of these events? How likely is that on a cosmic scale? Very unlikely. Probably a 1 to 1.0x10^100. The statistics are really against us here. Yet here we are.
Hell of an event.
This is bigger than anything we have seen and recorded as humans. And I truly want to celebrate this. The ancient Mayans intended to celebrate this moment as well because this is a big deal.
A new era will begin tomorrow and we are here to proudly say that, as a civilization that knows this event and understands it, we were here when it happened. Everyone alive on this planet today can proudly say "I was there". Anyone born after tomorrow or not aware of it now will have missed it.
As a Gnostic, I want to thank the Father in heaven for this. As a human being, I want to say to all of you thank you for being here to witness this grand event and I look forward to seeing how the New Era will turn out. I hope you have setup your New Era reservations. |

I believe that's based on the assumption that the Milky Way's boundary is not in a straight and set line like that of the Earth's equator. It's also based on the assumption that the boundary is so broad that it takes years to cross. But the Mayans didn't concern themselves with how thick the boundary is. All that mattered was that Dec 21, 2012 AD is the date we cross from one world to another. |

What were you expecting? A zombie apocalypse? This day is only meant to be about the alignment and resetting of the calendar. Nothing else. |

@Innus
Thank you very much for the kind words and thank you for being a part of this and understanding the true meaning of this event.
Tonight, me and my friends are going to be celebrating with an all-night Halo Night together with other friends who have recently arrived from out of state. Today is also the last official school day for the year until early January. I am so overjoyed that all of this is happening so fast in one day. My sister also arrived for the holidays just last night as well after a break from Army boot camp. What a hell of a time I'm having. What about you guys? |

I wonder how many years does it take for our solar system to completely travel from one edge of the plane to the next edge on the opposite side.
Don't be afraid to answer in scientific notation. |

Not what I meant. I forgot to mention the galactic plane. Remember, our galaxy is 100,000 light years across. |
