I'm a proud Gallente, and yet I'm stuck in this filthy Caldari Assault Dropsuit! I want my Gallente Assault drop suit!
Now seriously: I know this has been suggested, but the reason I'm making this post is because of differences between the races.
Currently, unless you're a Heavy, if you aren't going for shields - You're doing it wrong! Assault dropsuits have more spaces for shield upgrades and most of the useful modules are for low slots. We have one advantage for Armor, high slots are where the damage upgrade modules go... but that's about it.
So my suggestion is: (Assault dropsuits) Give Gallente suits more low slots than high, and high amount of Armor compared to other races. Give Caldari suits more high slots than low (like we have now), and a high amount of shields compared to other races. Give Amarr suits more low slots than high, and high amount of armor compared to other races. Give Minmatar suits mixed amont of slots, and mixed amount of armor and shields. (What we have now)
Also, add more useful modules to high slots other than damage upgrades. And add some "suit integrity" bar so we will have a hull meter, that way loss of armor =/= death, so there will be a buffer to take cover like shield users do. (Which is actually kinda stupid if you think about it, armor protects the vital systems in a dropsuit, its not the dropsuit itself, so you shouldn't die when losing all your armor) And increase armor repair rate, I know it has the advantage of repairing itself even under fire, but the rate is so slow that unless your shield is fired at for 2 minutes you gain no benefit from it. |

I'd love to have more variants in suits. Something i keep thinking of is the "amarr slave suit" logistics variant it has no weapon slots, but a built in repair tool and a very high number of slots for equipment.
it would fill a very specialized role, but it would be cool to see someone make that work.
edit - also you don't always die when you lose all your armor. I've survived at 0 armor quite a few times. |

Well, you see unless the suit itself is made out of paper you shouldn't die instantly even if its -1 armor. There is no buffer for armor users while there is for shield users, that should be fixed. |

I do not like this Caldari design, its specifications say that everything in that suit is designed to be practical, not comfortable. I would like my Gallente engineers to create something I could work with 24/7. |

Gallente suits should have a fast shield recharge. Often not noticed in EvE, but the recharge is quick on Gallente ships, the amount of shields is low, but so Gallente can be shield tanked based on the recharge speed.
So, I suggest the slot layouts and hp as op suggested, but Gallente should have the shield recharge as fast as the Caldari. Since the Caldari have a bigger shield, the Gallente would recharge to 100% faster.
+1 for suit variants, more module options. |

I've just figured that the meatsack inside of the suit really wouldn't take a hit from anything that is used on the battlefields of dust and be able to keep fighting. that meager space in between 0 shields and 0 armor and 0 shields and -1 armor is good enough for me as far as being the HP of the actual body, especially factoring in the fact that these worlds are not always conducive to life so a break in the suit would mean life support functions are compromised.
I would be a huge fan of a biotic module that increased that buffer, though. Having a stat/module for 'clone survivability' could be very useful. |

As a Minmatar in both games, I'm interested in seeing what the other suits will look like. Heavy would probably be a ducttape mummy.
But yeah, I think it's more a case of getting the designs finalised and modelled along with the weapons, vehicles, etc. Once that's done we can enjoy race specific suit bonuses like the ships in Eve have. |

I mean, I agree with you, but this has been discussed into the ground, and its pretty much a certainty. If you go on Buckingham, you can see a series of what I'll call "Specialist" dropsuits that require two suit skills to be able to use. For example, the Spec-Ops suit requires Scout and Assault skill, so how would it make sense that you have to have two race's skills just to be able to use that suit, when the nations in EVE really don't cooperate that well?(lolwar) |

It's pretty certain that when all the basic stuff is released, we'll have a framework that matches Eves. If you like a race's weapon, it's better to equip them on their ships for effectiveness. For example, Projectile turrets work best on most Minmatar ships because of bonuses to damage, range and firerate. Bonuses can be size specific as well.
So if you like the Laser rifle or the scrambler weapons, you'll probably train for Amarr assault dropsuits, since they'd likely be the ones with bonuses for light weapons. It's going to restrain people a bit but would give a bit of structure to the game. |

This exactly for me too. I play Caldari in EVE, play Caldari in Dust. However, whilst I save up all my unallocated skill points, I'm torn between whether I should invest them in the Gallente Scout dropsuit, or if there will be a Caldari scout dropsuit just around the corner which I should be keeping those skillpoints ready for instead.
Its a bit frustrating because dropsuits take a hell of a lot of SP, so the last thing I would want to do, is to invest so many SP in the gallente suit if a caldari version is released in just a few short weeks. Maybe even just a teeny tiny bit of info with regard to this CCP? Hmm? |

I love the idea of race based suits from a cosmetic perspective.
However, I have a concern.
Race specific attributes will lead to one brand of suits being OP, two being ok, and one being garbage. And I know which one that will be...me and my minmatar brothers and sisters.
Right now, this game is Shields 514. If you make an armor boosted Minmatar suit, it's Failmatar. If CCP doesn't make armor tanking just as viable as shield tanking, or avoid the issue of Minmatar = armor plates in DUST, then there's no problem.
If that issue is worked around, I would love to see what they do with the race suits. |

Honestly, I don't think that will happen. My reason being that in EVE Online we have, for example, Gallente/Caldari/Amarr/Minmatar battleships. None are over-powered relative to another race's version. Instead, they each have their own advantages/disadvantages.
For example, I play Caldari and their spaceships are widely known as shield-tankers. So my skills & modules in this regard favour me building up my shields as much as possible to protect my ship from attack. If however someone attacks me and chews all the way through my shields, then my armour is poor and that's my weakness right there.
On the other hand, one of the other race's has poor shields but good armour, a third race might have so-so shields and so-so armour (not great but not bad either) etc.
The same balance of strength/weakness can easily be used as a template for Dust514 dropsuits too. Either in terms of shield/armour hit-points & repair-rates, or in terms of CPU/PG allowance, or in terms of the mix of module slots they have. |

See, you're actually proving my point. Right now, Shields uber alles. Armor does not pay off the same way shields do. The Minmatar Assault suit version of a Hurricane (I used to own one) would be an armor heavy suit, and thus, penalized for it because of THIS game's mechanics. |

People keep saying how op shields are but i dont think so
I see armor as a team based tanking system, since armor has far more buffer combined with logistics repairing you is a very powerful combo
My heavy has 1k armor with complex plates and paired with my logi-bro it hasnt been taken down yet |
