I actually like the idea as an option. I mean, we already have aim assist, Move, Keyboard and Mouse, and the Duel shock controller as ways to control the characters so there isn't much of an iron standard to uphold, anyway. If even 5 percent of players want to trade one blind spot for another, then let them.
That said, TPS mode is a very, very low priority concern in comparison to issues and requests for connectivity, hit detection, matchmaking, weapon variety and customization, squad management, player market, tutorials, and general balancing. It will be at least a year after the official launch before it would be reasonable to throw it in and another six months to tweak it to be great. And that's being cautiously optimistic. |

Also absolutely not. Is turning around really that hard? I said that because they were flipping out, if you don't like ok, don't have to flip. No they weren't, and your just making yourself look bad by accusing other people of things.
Actually, it seems many of these posts are overreactions. The poster that said he/she/they found a way to exploit TPS mode is the only one that stated a valid reason to outright exclude the option. The post actually made me reconsider letting the option in and drew me closer to "there should not be Third Person combat" opinion.
As for the post about realism...a micro cam drone is much more realistic than a nanite injectors that instantly brings bullet ridden soldiers back to their feet. You could rig a crude version of the former with a trip to Radio shack, the right skills, and plenty (years) of free time. Anything close to the latter is probably being held up in a bunker under several meters of concrete or applies generous doses of pain killers.
If anything, an in-game third person camera should be an expensive module and have the same fidelity as the respawn-with-your consciousness-intact-implant. They could even throw in a "guardian angel" naming scheme and have it as the explanation for the Third person camera already in the quarters and vehicles.
So, as long as TPS mode is not forced onto players or exploitable (trade in radar, perhaps?), there is no reason to exclude it except that there are more important things to attend to, first. |

They tried that. Then they extended the length of the blade to ridiculous proportions, invested in and implemented a faulty heat sink that then forced them to install a limited cooling system. Then they slapped a trigger on it, shoved the costumes under their beds, and pretended like they had been calling it a Laser Rifle the entire time...
I want a Heavy Laser. The militia forge gun just isn't doing it for it for me, anymore.
On a side note, yeah, they should install first person driving and appropriate animations. I'd still like third person, too. Its nice for people that want a decent replacement for peripheral vision, sonic tracking, and seismic readings, which I think most people take for granted, especially when you hear and feel a thud in the other room and go to investigate. If we substituted the ground shaking with screen shaking, the screen would never stop trembling. With that many explosions and rolling tank treads, it would be appropriate and realistic, but annoying. |
