Continuing from my previous diaries.
Nice to be able to continue my work here. Been playing Chromosome since its deployment early this week and so far I have this much to say:
- Lag has either been reduced by a huge amount or it's non-existent at this point. For now.
- The game feels faster this time around.
- Graphics have improved.
After loading up my first match, one of the first things I did was pull out my ninja knifing fit and went to town with the map. Didn't work out too well in the first match as I had no clue how the map was arranged and I was more disoriented than I anticipated. In the end, the match didn't end well because I was entering the map right when my team got redlined.
Second or third match I entered a map which was a variation of the Manus Peak map with the sun setting by the mountains in the north creating a blinding glare when you look north. Interestingly I managed to kill an assault and a scout that were perched high up on a structure which can only be accessed by climbing a 7-story high ladder. But that's not the best part. They were somewhat deep into the safety of their red zone and I had 20 seconds to run across a field that exposes me to enemy fire (right in front of them), climb up the 7-story ladder, and run down the catwalk to kill them before I commit suicide. Even though it was a one-way trip going in, it was worth it as I also managed to take out their drop uplink in the process. I still wonder why they didn't see me as I was running almost directly in front of them. Might have something to do with the graphics.
Speaking of which, I love the improvements to the graphics. No more black silhouettes contrasting with the background which means the profile dampener should be more useful now.
I then entered another match with a squad this time (one of them was from Seraphim Initiative) and we managed to have some good fun together in a version of Manus Peak which had a sunny afternoon and a compound in the south that has a very tall building that is perfect for snipers. I was able to kill two such snipers on top by simply chasing after them up the ladder. Holy **** that was long climb that I thought I would be spotted before I get to the top. Had to be about 15-17 stories before I finally reached the top and killed the sniper. I then took the quick way down and inertia dampened my trip to the first floor before I caused quite a stir in the compound as I sprinted around every opponent that tried to spray-n-pray on me. Managed to kill at least two before a heavy or a scout killed me. We followed up on another match in the variation of Line Harvest where we attacked from the North and I almost had someone who was standing around in the southern safe zone (my squad mate from SI marked him for me to see). Unfortunately he turned around to check his six at the last second and we ended up doing the salsa dance before I ran out of time and committed suicide.
A new thing I learned recently in how to manage my stamina. Since my endurance, vigor, and mobility skills have been trained up half way, I'm able to run a long way. However I learned the hard way to NEVER use up all of my endurance in one go. I estimate that if I stopped sprinting at the 1/4 mark and walked a bit I would be able to have enough stamina in reserve in the likely event I would run into an opponent. That way, with the 1/4 reserve, I would sprint away immediately confident that I have enough to make it out alive.
On top of that, I am no longer encountering a problem with the character collision. I no longer glitch ahead of my target as soon as I get close to them. I also like the new pose for the nova knives. they no longer take up a large portion of the screen when I pounce on someone.
Overall, great job CCP. |

===Update 28 Dec 2012===
Note: I like to thank Nova Knife for the great tip he gave me regarding the Nova Knife. You were right. It changed everything for me.
Today I had a lot of fun with the Nova Knife after finally remembering to check my dust-mail (I have to check more often) and was able to do better than I expected. Most of the time I was basically using the logistics fit to help my team mates but there were times that I had to use my ninja fit to deal with those pesky snipers.
Anyways, the next match I was able to scare off more mercs with Nova's tip since I am now able to close the gap between me and my target more effectively before I get shot. It was so effective that I even came much closer to a shotgun scout than I did last time.
Anyways, I was able to accumulate enough ISK from the Hong Kong Show ambush matches to afford losing dozens of advanced scout suits as I progressed without feeling so much in debt. At the moment I have nearly 2 million ISK and I intend to work towards accumulating more ISK while I continue to save up on SP for the prototype scout suit. So far I only have nearly 300,000 SP and I need nearly 700,000 SP to get to Gallente Dropsuit Level 4. Unfortunately the prototype needs level 5 to use and I estimate that level will probably cost around 1,200,000 SP.
Of course, buying the dropsuit is not gonna be a problem for me since I am not only building up ISK along the way, I also already have over 100 units of the Scout vk.0 sitting in my hangar thanks to the ISK-tranfer incident that occurred early on during Codex (some stranger from Eve side donated 20million ISK to me). Of course, CCP closed that issue long ago. It's only a matter of time. And since we just got started with Chromosome and I am already this far into training, I might as well go all the way towards the prototype. In addition to that, this is also the last closed-beta build (according to CCP) so that alone motivates me to reach that goal before the beta goes live. Time to start grinding with my Logistics suit I guess since that is the second best thing I am good at.
Edit:
As pointed out by the discussion below, it appears that CCP has given the Vigor skill book a dual bonus. Not only will it improve on the stamina recovery rate but it will also improve on the maximum stamina. The Endurance skill book still provides a bonus for the maximum stamina.
Thank you Sytonis.
===Update 29 Dec 2012===
This is a quick update to the diaries here before I head out to a friend's place for a halo night tonight.
I like to thank Nova Knife for inviting me into a squad so that we can shank some mercs together. It was really fun tonight as we often used each other as bait luring snipers and assaults out of their holes. We had a few challenges along the way especially in that one map variant of Line Harvest close to the enemy red zone in the north. But then things got really interesting as we brought hell to the enemy in the Ashland skirmish map. Once the enemy was forced into a red line it was nothing but running into the red zone killing mercs like the occasional sniper. Although I like to hand it to the enemy for at least putting the effort into trying to hold the E objective. Overall, me and Nova managed to get more kills than I thought.
Funny. This friendship began as soon as me and Nova encountered each other as opposing mercs trying to lock knives with each other a couple of matches earlier. The server gods loved me and allowed me to kill Nova three times with his own weapon.
Good game, man. Good game. |

===Update 2 Jan 2013===
What a way to start the new year. I believe it is now YC 116 in the Eve calendar. Wow, how time has flown by.
But you know what else can make a good start for the new year? Two things.
1. Discovering how surprisingly easy it was for me to penetrate the southern red zone where the enemy was perched on the southwestern hills not far from the southern mcc. Managed to kill two snipers with absolute impunity before my 20 seconds were up. Unfortunately I didn't note their names so I can't publicly shame them for being easy pickings. I do have to give them credit though for having me cornered for a moment before I quickly discovered a safe passage along the mountains that led me to get behind them and stab them both before the red zone claimed me once again. I then attempted to go back there again after respawning because there was still a third sniper to kill. But alas the match was over and my team won. This was on the Manus Peak skirmish variant.
2. Going 8-3 in the Ashland skirmish map variant. It is rare for me to toot my horn about my KD since I care so little about KD that to me the KD means nothing. But what makes this score so special is how I was able to obtain these kills. Every kill, with the exception of just one melee kill, was with the nova knife. After we succeeded in red lining the enemy against the West, I proceeded to run in all LEEEEEEERROOOYY JENKINS on their sorry butts and hacked them all to pieces with the knife. Mercs were running scared from me, scouts couldn't figure out how to react to me running towards them like a Licker from Resident Evil 2, and the assaults were wondering how they were dying in their only safe haven to a single scout wielding only butter knives. And no, I did not die to the red zone this time as I carefully calculated how far I could go in before I had to get out. Also, there was plenty of cover the enemy had that worked in my favor. Enemy cover may be the bane to my team mates' existence, but enemy cover can be the enemy's coffin if they are not careful with me.
Oh, I also watched Django today in theaters

Looks like I won't be able to get to my prototype dropsuit level in time. Damn it. Might as well spend everything I got and start stabbing with style in my 'Kindred' scout suit.
On a brighter note, I reactivated my Eve Online accounts recently. Henry Haphorn and Gerald Sphinx are my two mains if you like to know.
See you all on the other side I guess???
===Update 13 Jan 2013===
Oh my goodness. I completely forgot how it must feel like to start from the bottom. When you don't have your best weapons, your best suit, and your amped-up skill books. You feel... naked.
As of right now, I am regaining what I lost and thus I am focusing all of my SP gains towards Gallente Scout Dropsuit Level 5 because I am sooooo wanting to try out the prototype suits. I swear those suits look frakking awesome in the viewer with their jet black color that really makes it look like a true ninja.
But to achieve this end as soon as possible, I have purchased 7-day passive boosters so that I can get 1,008,000 SP in a single month while using the 7-day active boosters to try to get the most out of the daily cap. In the mean time, I'm mainly using drop uplinks, nanohives, nanite injectors, and repair modules to farm the SP while trying to sneak in a few rifle shots on the enemy to farm some assists.
God, I feel like I'm scraping for leftovers here. What's even more weird is the fact that I have gotten so use to stabbing people that picking up a gun has become completely and utterly alien to me. I can't aim for ****, my enemy kills me while they escape from me with only a smidgen amount of armor left, and my lack of suitable kinetic catalyzers makes me feel about as maneuverable as a three-legged cow swimming through molasses.
I miss wearing my good gear. I felt like GOD back then.
But that's ok. I'm not asking CCP to make it easy. If I've done it before on my own, I can do it again. |

===Update 24 Jan 2013===
Finally coming back from my adventures as well as work, studying, and generally hanging out with my girlfriend.
Anyways, some time ago I already managed to skill up towards the Advanced Scout suit (again). This time it took a while under the currently daily-cap mechanics that have a soft cap of 50 SP/match without boosters. Other than that I'm well on my way towards Gallente Scout Dropsuit Level 4. I'm still only able to use the Standard Nova Knife because I'm focusing all my skill points towards the next level of the Scout Dropsuit which is at least 680,000 SP to level up while currently I'm at around 260,000 SP. It will take a long time, but I'm patient and I don't mind the grind.
In case you haven't noticed I recently joined Planetary Response Organization (PXRXO) since my brother is also in it and so far I am liking the culture there. During my first day with them I joined a squad and was able to support my corp mates with drop uplinks, repair tools, and nanohives since my secondary profession happens to be Logistics. It was also during this time that I decided to play around with the Standard Nova Knife. It was a miracle that I managed to run up to an assault directly from the front (I don't know what I was thinking here) and killed him before he could do anything. I heard my corp mate laughing over the comms asking me "Did you just kill him with a knife?" We both LOL'ed. Moments after that I heard a HMG buzzing nearby and saw that he was distracted. I stood by just around the corner waiting a bit for the HMG to be low on bullets or be in the middle of a reload. Once I got the cue I then Melee-Hold-Charged the Nova Knife so that I can sprint towards the enemy Heavy with the charge still on. He died as soon as my Nova Knife made contact. It must have been embarrassing for the guy.
You're probably wondering what I meant by "Melee-Hold-Charged the Nova Knife." According to a friend of mine who I squaded with earlier (his name is Nova knife) he and Noc Tempe discovered a glitch with the charge mechanic of the knife that enables you to hold the charge even while sprinting multiple times. The glitch can be started by simply meleeing. While you are in the process of meleeing you press and hold R1 before the melee finishes. The charge will build up and remain there until you let go of R1 even while sprinting.
Please remember two things about this:
1. CCP Cmdr Wang mentioned in the Feedback/Requests Weekly Updates that the Nova Knife is expected to have this feature implemented anyways in a future update of Dust 514.
2. Me and my friend Nova Knife believe this is a great way to test out that feature and so far it has made even the Standard Nova Knife more practical because the number one complaint about the weapon is the inability to hold the charge while sprinting.
From there on to now, it has been hit and miss. Even with two Complex Sidearm Damage modules fitted. The only way for me to be more effective is to train up towards the Advanced variant. But that alone is a major detour from my current skill plan and I don't want to do that just yet. Besides, having a Prototype Scout Dropsuit with 3x mid slots for Complex Damage modules and 3x low slots for Complex Kinetic Catalyzers is a huge incentive for me to aim for the Prototype suit. With the right setup, not only will I soon be able to sprint like a world-class champion, I would also be able to chew even through Heavy armor better. But that will take a long time and I'm ready for the wait. For now, I need to focus on helping my corp as well as grinding the SP to Level 4 Gallente Scout suit.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I had some hilarious and fun moments with other scouts and assaults trying to duel me in a melee contest. |

===Update 1 Feb 2013===
[Demolitions] -Grenadier Level 1
[Dropsuit Command] -Dropsuit Command Level 2 -Gallente Scout Dropsuit Level 4
[Electronics] -Circuitry Level 3 -Nanocircuitry Level 1
[Handheld Weapons] -Assault Rifle Operation Level 1 -Nova Knife Operation Level 1 -Scrambler Pistol Operation Level 1 -Weaponry Level 5
As you can see from the list of current skills I have trained, the only two major skill books I have invested my SP into are the Gallente Scout Dropsuit and Weaponry skill books. Other than that, the rest of the books remained the same since the last (and final) character reset that happened back on the 10th of January. God, I can't get that sexy scout suit out of my head. I bet I'd look good in it. Black fibers ad plating outlined with contrasting gray lines with red lights on its helmet. Damn, that thing looks good. Definitely worthy of a ninja with a nice nova knife. Once I'm able to wear that thing with pride, I'll finally be able to start focusing my SP on getting the Ishukone Nova Knife to go with the suit.
The best part of my experience is that starting over has taught me a very important lesson. Never take your weapon for granted. When I had to start over with just the Standard Nova Knife with its slow recharge and weak damage I realized that my experience has enabled me to make the most of what little I have.
Up until now, I have been using mainly the 'Exile' assault rifle BPO along with the militia SMG BPO and so far I have been doing amazingly well with just those two in an attempt to grind my way to the Prototype Scout vk.0. But once I get to the Prototype Ishukone Nova Knife I'll practically ditch the guns and go straight into shanking mercs like I did before. This time with only prototype hardware. And yeah, I can afford it all now because the last time I was playing which was last night I managed to accumulate nearly 8 million ISK. I have practically been earning far more than I can spend thanks in part to the BPOs that I managed to buy cheap before CCP decided to hike up their AUR price last month. I also managed to purchase a 'Kindred' Scout Dropsuit (red and white coloring) so that I can show off on the warbarge whenever I wait for the match to start which is happening quite often now (thank god).
I feel soooooooo privileged now. And I'm pretty sure there are many of you out there who did the same.
By the way, I'm loving the new sound effects on the game. So awesome and I can finally hear the Nova Knives activating more realistically this time. Which reminds me, I've actually gotten pretty damn good with just the standard now. Amazing how playing in such a handicapped fashion can actually improve your skills especially in a profession that is so challenging that only the best can properly handle it. It even encouraged me to better manage my stamina levels.
Well, that's all for now. I'll let you know when I finally get to wear the Scout vk.0 (jet black coloring).
I'm too sexy for my suit Too sexy for my suit Too sexy for my suit It hurts. I'm a knifer, you know what I mean. When I do my 'lil stab on the heavy.
===Update 8 Feb 2013===
Oh my god, I have not felt this much adrenaline rush since I last held a proto knife. In one match, I was in a squad with PXRXO in an Ambush OMS map while I was running around with my AV militia swarm + 2x complex damage mod fit with only a standard nova knife as a backup while I kept popping LAVs left and right like they were nothing (cheap LAVs are cheap). At the same time I was sitting in front of the TV eating ribs that were cooked last night with the plate sitting on my lap.
Suddenly a fire fight ensued nearby with my squad mates involved. Since I was out of swarm ammo and I had my nova knife equipped I said to myself "FRAKK IT!" and went ahead to see how many I can kill before some random raspberry manages to kill me.
*SHANK-SHANK* One down. *SHANK-SHANK* Another one down. *SHANK-SHANK* Oh yeah! *SHANK-SHANK* HEAR MY ROAR!!!!!!!
Before I knew it, my legs were shaking so much I tried my best to calm it down before it could spill my plate full of ribs. At the same time my heart was racing and my eyes were as focused as a hawk on prey looking for my next target. I never felt so tense in a long time. I was literally in the middle of a fire fight with just a knife. Poor raspberries didn't know what hit them.
At the same time I could hear my corp mates saying "Damn dude!" as they saw me fillet all four of those mercs in 30 seconds. I think we still lost the match but after we returned to our merc quarters the main topic discussed was about the nova knife. Apparently I wasn't the only one in the corp who likes to specialize in it.
Moral of the Story:
If you want to truly challenge yourself and improve your surviving skills, then your best bet is to drop the gun and pull out the knife. There is no greater challenge in Dust than a knife in a gun fight. |

I just remembered the conversation I had with Nova Knife yesterday about the sound effects of the knives. It seems that the knives, when holding a charge, emit a certain sound that can be heard from a short distance away. This probably explains why some targets seem to turn around at the last moment when I get close to them. The sound is kind of like hearing an electric motor that's being overloaded with too much electricity. And this is before discharging the weapon which is described as having a "shing-shing" sound as you strike.
This is something to consider the next time you commit yourself to charging the nova knives next to your target. Once you are close, you have to go through with the strike now or else your opponent will turn around wondering what that strange sound is coming from. It's happened to me a few times as I chased down my targets.
There you go. We learn something new everyday. |

I'm not surprised. With over a 300,000 possible unique players out there (assuming you break down 1,000,000 mercs to 3 alts per account) I would imagine it would become more difficult to run into each other in random matches.
But seriously, there can't be that many mercs out their with the 'Kindred' Scout suit. I stand out like a raspberry in a sea of blueberries in the warbarge. |
