Dust 514 has a lot of potential, linking it to a PC MMO with a single shard universe is amazing but it still seems to be missing something. With Dust being presented as the ground troops version of EVE Online, I don't feel that one big universe. As I start the game I am in my Merc Quarters on a spaceship I can't explore, interact, or meet new people. I cant even invite someone to my Quarters for some pre-game planning. The maps are shown in this beta are only , with EVE Online being this big universe with hundred of planets I believe the planets players are battling on and for should be divided into sections similar to Plantside 2. Listen I don't want Dust 514 to be a rip-off of Planetside but at the same time it makes more sense than just some 32 player Team Death Match. I doubt Dust can put thousands of players on one map or would even want too, but try 128 or 256 players give us different regions to conquer in stead of killing clones until their reserves get depleted. Now since this is still on beta I assume that after you win/lose a match you just don't get some XP and a couple items, since it is a shared universe with its own in-game monetary value how about perks for conquering planets with select resources. For Instance, lets say Planet Dawn (Not a real planet, I think) has a continent with Mining sites for metal used for a specific gun and your Corporation owns the region the mining site is in, anyone in that Corporation would be able to purchase that gun for a reduced cost. Typing this inbetween matches there need force-field at respawns, guess there are some bugs still in the latest build. The speed is another one that gets me I feel a bit slow moving through the battlefield in the future, makes gameplay feel sluggish when it shouldn't because I get no lag maybe add jetpacks or rocket boots for quick dashes through the terrain. The maps in this game are large (if we can get out of the boundaries after beta) and the customization is something I have never seen...

Yep, Dust has a lot of potential. It will take years to unlock that potential, but CCP are in this for the long haul. Eve is about to have its 10th birthday, and they expect Dust to be just as long-lived.
Most of the things you are asking for, and a lot more, are on the roadmap and will probably appear in game in one of the numerous free expansions we can expect over the coming years.
The speed of play in the latest build seems better than the previous one, and you have (free) LAVs for moving rapidly around the battlefield. You have safe zones for respawning in; if you choose to spawn on the battlefield you are taking a risk.
The Eve integration is being done slowly and carefully as they can't afford to break Eve.

It would be great if there were regions or planets that could always be fought over 24 hours a day with no pauses. A match that had no end but whoever corporation controlled that planet or region would gain some benefit to those in their corporation while it was under control.
No match making for this game mode; simply a corp owned planet in which any corp member could join their corp at will, to defend or attack the planet. If a corp's members go offline leaving few to defend it then any attacker could gain control.
I'd find that much more fun than a random matches such as we test in the beta. I love the idea of home turf.

Get out of my head! Lol, I was thinking pretty much the same thing the other night, but with slight variations. What I would like to see though is this, planets are open 24/7. Any individual can spawn on one of these planets, survey the planet, decide planet is worth fighting for and he calls for support from his corp, the come in (in real time, no pregame lobby, just look up and you will see them drop through the clouds etc, the corp who owns this planets gets a message through that their planet is under attack, they drop in to defend their planet, the attacking corp calls for reinforcements and it winds up one big battle. That's my vision, but I guess its almost identical to yours lol. |
