To preface, I've been playing that game about 6 days now.
My corp has helped give me tips and etc while I try and figure things out (not an eve player so the fits were a bit foreign but not difficult).
I generally end up healing because people need healing. That being said the 3 games I played I didn't heal as much as before, there was just too much slaughter.
(Notes on observances: Definitely brought in newer players. Lots of people displaying classic behaviors of newbies. This is fine, I did the same things a week ago. Lots of player bunching, they were playing an attrition battle they weren't going to win. I am slightly drunk right now) Note: on that last... note. If anyone can shrink this down without being both loony and buzzed feel free.
Notes on my char: All BPO (I don't have the skills to use any non BPO except nanite syringes. Tier 1 Logi or Assault armor, Tier 1 AR or SMG, Militia BPO otherwise)
To best summarize my experiences, I would first try and support. I always try and get a drop uplink down in a secure and forward position to encourage the swarm. (I figure if they see 3 people on an objective they'll come help seeing easy work, not always succesful but is important). The beating would start early (generally they would start hacking first, i'd be in the first drop but not in scout gear) and I'd have to abandon that because any drop was caught too fast. I would then choose to focus on keeping others alive, but quickly find myself needing to just kill. Groups I joined heading towards an objective would dissolve before getting there. Allies wouldn't watch the radar and other allies would get removed with minimal resistance as a result. I revived and healed when I could. Kept the heavies moving, kept anyone I could moving. I would watch as we would stay at one position and try and just kill the enemy (this is skirmish btw). Paying no attention to the fact that we only had 1 point. I would run out somewhere else and capture. Still they kept the one point. I would continue my game of take what I can, hope allies would see the opportunity and strike.
The games were not close. I did well, generally scoring above 1200 WP each game. Better than people who had 3x as many kills. But that is with both objective as well as CRU and Supply depot hacks (priority to the objectives to reduce early awareness).
Did I really earn the points? I'd say no. I killed some but I'm not terribly effective. I healed some but it generally didn't mean much and I watched heavies get chewed up in front of me. They might have been able to hold out if I had a better repair gun. Revives would sometimes last but they just went back into the war of attrition. I would capture points/crus and we wouldn't immediately lose them but a shift in spawn generally takes a bit of time.
Did I do good? Yeah I feel like I did. But did I contribute to the team in an effective way? No and I take 50% of the fault for it. What could I have done better? Meh no clue. I have no effective solution and I got tons of war points and about as much ISK as I did for my best solo matches pre-chromosome(since I know there was an increase).
What can be improved? I don't know. I don't think anyone does really. It is a problem plagued by this kind of game for a long time. Encourage holding objectives? Nope, campers. Encourage holding with increased growth based on holds? Nope, too lop sided WP wise. Encourage new objectives? Nope, no defenders (maybe with a time increase?).
Best I can figure is rather than encourage the opening of opportunities like I was attempting, the goal should be to encourage capitalizing opportunities others present. Otherwise you create vigilantes (me) rather than a squad (ideal). If I give a revive I enjoy the points. But maybe the player enjoys a boost for doing something meaningful with his new lease on life? Next kill bonus? Decent boost to hacking an installation? Good boost for hacking an objective? Make what I gave mean something. Deadly players save my life? Toss em a couple WP.
Maybe mark me as a can of whoop ass opener if I am making opportunities. If I keep taking spawn points and they don't immediately fall, you don't need to reward me. But maybe mark me? Let squadmates know that I am making things happen? That one is trickier obviously but it has been said before that squads rule. And thats what it was. Squads of corps cutting through us. You don't need to even the playing field but make working as a squad more natural. Hell if I capture 2 objectives with no assistance and no one spawns on them before being hacked 30 seconds later, maybe you can give me a little attention. let people know I'm out there because the current coms aren't going to pull that off. You don't even need to mark me, maybe a little notice that I hacked another one after that happened prior.
Would all that work? No. Is it a good idea? Probably not due to success rate. But if you wanted to just make money I figure'd the game would be called "Call of Boobies" and it would just be a girl jumping up and down in camo short shorts. And the controller would vibrate. (note to self for phone app). All I know is I forget what I was gonna say.
Hell make it a test event. Heck you could do test events post launch for some weird stuff. Say it happens near a black hole idk. Be great.
We were beat in those games no matter what. But I'm not necessarily looking to win in pub matches. I just want a good fight. I have absolutely been beaten so bad that I was more impressed than angry (surviving for less than 15 seconds). Give me a war worth smiling about, do that by enabling the weak.
I said I didn't have an answer but the booze said otherwise.
Now I am going to go play, or sleep or both. I couldn't say I'd be willing to read this much nor can I say I'd be willing to read as long of a response so do what you will. Just figured I'd say something different. |

Oh and my point on who deserves the WP more. No idea but I certainly wasn't making any more progress than any others. And there might well have been missed openings that I missed as well. |

Main problem is there is zero communication or coordination on the random teams. I am guessing but there are probably a lot of 2 to 4 man squads who are talking between themselves but no team effort. I almost always have my mike on team but almost always I am the only one there. |

Been noticing that the 'blue dots' have gotten some sort of brain freeze this build. Yes they are not on coms, no they might not have some sort of 'usual playstyle' some squats have... but for some reason they do all the things, how to put this politely... they shouldn't.
If they see 3 dots running to an objective they join the group... and then suddenly move in the opposite direction. All sorts of whack **** going on on the battlefield this build.

I think the issue is new players brought in.
As for my thoughts on team coordination, read from the bottom.
You can say I earned it but helping isn't always the same action. |

Yeah, some sort of team coordination would be nice. Battlefield 2142 had a nice "team commander" role where you could give each squad an objective and that would make things a little more organized (assuming players listened). I believe I heard that something like that will come to Dust at some point. Not sure how that role will be given in a random match, so it could be as effective/invisible as the squad leader controls right now.
Another thing to note is that gameplay is going to be especially bonkers right after a patch because players are getting used to or testing new features. I have been running loadouts with weapons I don't usually use and kind of clueless as to how to be effective with them. So it isn't just the new players doing dumb things.
