Feels like I'm back in 'Nam with these irons, I thought we were immortal mercs fighting an intergalactic war?
The way I see it, when you pull up your weapon, the interface in your helmet receptors or whatever immediately calculate and project a holographic iron sight (which you can see through)
Not only is this a futuristic feature but it also keeps the same ideal of an iron sight.
Thoughts? |

Even simpler. Let's just have an option to choose whether or not we want to add an ADS camera sight on our AR ? Guess that will be added with the weapon customization tool when it's ready.
Just a matter of being patient on that one. |

Simple, camera attachment on the gun. If you don't like iron sights then you can install that. |

What gets me is that we barely use Iron sights on assault rifles now, I've been in the Army for about 8 years now and every M4 I've used and most M16's have a reflexive red dot sight, with iron sights as a back up in case it breaks or your batteries die.
Eve takes place like 25,000 years in the future... I think we should be past iron sights. |

Its a tiny difference, but its noticeable.

Well, that's what I wanted. Something like a red dot, so you can still see the weapon but you don't use Iron sights. Heck, the TAR-21 rifles replacing Israel's M16's and M4's come pre-installed with a Mars sight, so I don't think its too far fetched to have infinite battery red dots 25k years in the future. |

This would definitely be ok with me, give me the choice of putting an attachment on my AR and i'll be fine with that, but those iron sights suck and I don't want to use them, Burst you are my new friend for now |

This is the future, I doubt they will still use Iron sights. |

Ye the thing is, iron sights should be an option just as camera or any other type of sights or scopes, but what I'm suggesting here is that instead of actual 'iron sights' as we know them, perhaps use the dropsuit's technology to project a hologram of an iron sights into the weapon.
We shouldn't have these bulky solid sights on our screen, rather, transparent holograms of those sights of the past. |

Better yet, why not add a transparency slider in the system options. The iron sights can then be as present as you want them to be (with maybe an upper limit on how transparent you can make them). |

Sounds good too, the point I'm trying to make is that we get rid of solid metal markers on top of the guns |

The iron sights are good for this game right now as they are keeping players from killing people halfway across the map simply by aligning the little red dot onto the other player and firing.
Recoil has also been increased to further prevent this from happening, which helps balance the damage output of these guns.
Assault rifles are meant to be medium distance weapons, not long range. That's why there's a tactical one for those of you that want to hit people from far away yet don't want a sniper.
This new version of the gun also helps players realize what the developers wanted the gun to feel like, and they did a good job of doing so. |

Iron sights are good for gameplay, but I fully support some kind of scifi augmented reality version of them. More scifi is better. |

I cant stand the iron sights,as already said above, this is the future. Aren't we past iron sights at this point in time? I understand their place and that some might like them. But we should have the option of what sight we want mounted on our weapon. A red Dot would be my choice for my assault rifle. |

Red dots can fail. They can be shot off, their battery can go dry, and number of things. Iron sights are a backup and a must. A weapon that doesn't have one isn't ever going to be accepted into military service. |

This is tens of thousands of years into the future. I like ironsights, and think they're good for Dust's gameplay because I find it more fun and balances the AR... but it doesn't make sense. Consider the rules of warfare, and weaponry used 20,000 years ago. Also consider the rate at which technology builds upon itself and accelerate. What today's military would accept or do might not apply at all. It would probably take only like 200 years to replace human soldiers with stronger faster tougher more versatile flying machines (remote controlled, or smarter-than-human AI designed and perfected from studying and enhancing upon human neurology). Such things could have dozens of extremely precise and powerful weapon systems installed, and make Dust look like WW1. I wonder if there was a dark age in which technology and knowledge was lost to trigger such a slowing of technological progress.
Anyway... back on topic: Some sort of red dot that isn't physically there, but a product of augmented reality of the merc's helmet would be pretty scifi and replace ironsights.

Not bad....just a projected site on the faceplate. And one poster above was right. Most US forces units tend to not even bother with the old style iron sights. And any M4 or M16 that has rails get a backup iron sight that gets attached on. But, even so almost every unit no matter what kind gets optics anymore. Holo-sight, ACOG or red dot. And DARPA and various other countries have been working for years on sights that are setup to have a small sight projected onto a faceplate that are linked to a camera attached to the weapon. As far into the future as this is set iron sights would never even be bothered with unless it was for baseliners. |

I'll just drop the same little note I did in another "no ironsights" argument earlier today... During the "space race", America spent MILLIONS developing a special pen that could be used without any need for gravity, so that they would be able to write in space. Russia used pencils.

their trijion or something like that sights, they are standard on most modern beretta's and they look futuristic, as they light up in the Dark or atleast are supposed to, they run off of the sun itself and are self powering and they are designed to provide a clear concise aim point in all tactical/ shooting situations.
they are the stock iron sights, just wait for wep customization and stop complaning, you cant get too detailed on a console, their ARE limitations believe it or not.
