Also How does someone come to own a section of the galaxy is it just man power. I don't play eve. It's a long difficult process involving "sovereignty" mechanics in which you have to spend days and/or weeks taking over systems. It involves a lot of co-ordination, an insane amount of patience and a great deal of people.
This. It's why you see EVE Online battles with a couple of thousand players involved.

Not strictly true though is it? You can take sov quite easily if you know what you're doing and time things right.
Yes/no. If your opponent is of limited size or restricted to particular time zones, then you can play with timers that require your opponent to use "alarm clock ops." But from what I saw of the big alliances that isn't as much of an issue.
Timer games and will to fight can also play a big role in those parts of null sec that are (permanently) under NPC control. Rote Kapelle just kicked the butt of a much larger alliance in Syndicate and took their moons because the larger alliance wouldn't fight. |

Caveat lictor: It's been a while since I worried about null sec sov games. I come and go from EVE, and during my most recent stint I was all about the faction warfare PVP. That's one of the things I love about DUST 514: instant PVP. I am not that good at it, but it's what I love. |

IIRC, DUST 514 will initially be set on Temperate planets with several districts per planet (I don't remember if Barren planets will initially have DUST 514 districts, but I think they will be later). Some temperate planets don't have DUST 514 districts (e.g., the capital of the Amarr empire, Amarr Prime, won't have combat on it). But most will.
Here's a list of planet distribution. K-space is "known space", which includes high sec, low sec, and null sec star systems. W-space is wormhole space. DUST 514 will probably have its biggest eventual impact in the player-controlled parts of null sec and in the faction warfare parts of low sec space, where control of the districts on the ground will affect system sovereignty. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Planet
Yah, that IS a lot of planets. |
