20 more default damage!!! as it is right now, the laser rifle is NOT op in anyway shape or form, so we need to fix that by adding an additional 20 default damage!!! also, we need our quafe suits!!! also, we need our patch notes!!! get that stuff going CCP!!! |

I can actually do quite well as a heavy with a laser rifle. It has to heat up before doing insane damage.
Btw, with how fast it "fires", adding 20 per shot would be insanely overpowered |

I'd perfer a base range that's about 60% longer than a Tac ar without the sharpshooter skill

exactly!!!! its not overpowered justttttt yet, so we need to fix that by doubling its damage (btw the laser rifle only does 20 damage per shot to begin with) |

been trying the laser rifle out on my...well this guy xP and i thinks its the greatest thing created xP wouldnt mind a beef up on the dmg at first but leave the max dmg the same prolly |

Really now? Anti vehicle light infantry weapon. Sorry we already posses swarm launchers. Now about these "needs" for the laser rifle. It needs a damage reduction if it "needs" anything.
Why? Lets see, first it has an insane rate of fire. Technically the fastest in the game. It even trumps a light machine gun in terms of speed. Mix that with its range and damage bonus with heat, its a bit much.
Which brings me to my next thought, range is excessive. It shouldnt shoot that far that fast with that much damage. Peels down militia in a split second, even heavies get stripped quickly. Cant defend against a gun at that range.
It does decent damage to LAVs which we dont need. You should not be damaged by light infantry weapons while in a vehicle. Except of course for swarm launchers and designated heavy caliber weapons. Laser rifles are too "versatile" their only weakness is getting in close, but even then most of the time they can fall back and get you before you can close in.
Damage and range reductions are needed if that gun is going to shoot that fast. Common sense, for balance. |

The laser rifle just needs a range boost and some adjustments to the way the sharpshooter skills affects the gun.
Any standard assault rifle, let alone a tactical AR, is generally better at killing at medium/long range. The only reason I use it is because it's fun and unique. |

I wouldn't go as far as saying it actually fulfills many roles. For anti-vehicle it's only effective at stripping off shields. And even then I've come across some shield tankers that took about 3 clips of my elm-7. Armor tanks/dropships LOL at my laser rifle.
As for anti-infantry, it's only effective at long range and utterly garbage at medium to close range (the way it should be). In cqc, it requires you to fire off your entire clip because you need the damage build up to even have a chance at winning the duel. If the guy can't kill me in CQC by the time I empty an entire clip, he's bad and deserves to die. Even in long range it serves as more of an area denial weapon than an efficient killer like the AR.
If i'm playing with/against good players i'll fall usually in 2nd-4th place on the leader boards. If I go 20/1 it's usually because i'm playing against new players.
The imbalance is not that huge. |
