I saw this was posted once before, but I have some details I was thinking about specifically.
tl;dr: Anyone should be able to spawn on their squadmates, if they are in the open. But this'll come with obvious game environment penalties.
Something that really brings players together in FPS's online is the encouragement to act as a squad. As a player coming from BF3, a short history in EVE, and a lot of experience of dropping into new games headfirst, I can honestly say that jumping into Dust I felt totally solo. I don't know who my squadmates are, I don't know who's in what corp, hell, I don't even know who's on my team if it weren't for the color of their name on the battlefield.
My idea is to first to have a spawn screen that makes it obvious who's on your squad. Name, KDR, most recent dropsuit type used. Second, allow the player to spawn anywhere on the map in the vicinity of a squad member, if it's in the open field. I'm assuming in Ambush that the CRU is up in the air, so here's two spawn scenarios:
- The flying CRU could shoot out the player like a cannonball to the location where they want to spawn (think Pumpkin Chunkin', or BF2142 spawn). This could be an attachment that the employer of engagements puts on his CRU's, or can be a player corp specific CRU feature.
- A flying CRU could transport the player to a location in the same way a cloaked dropship swoops in and drops a jeep or other vehicle. This would explain the long respawn time.
In both of these situations, the other team would be made aware (if they pay attention to it) of squad spawns, so it's gotta be carefully done.
Sci-fi proof of concept: If we have GPS devices in every single one of our phones today, 20k years from now we should have been able to develop quickly deployable GPS. |

A quick note that I would like to add to this is if there is a Drop Uplink down and an enemy is within in so far from it, it should appear a different color, or not allow you to spawn on it period. This would help to keep people from spawn camping. Just a thought. |

Try out some common sense and or situational awareness. |

Actually it might be a cool idea if the upgraded uplinks would have a scanner attached that shows red dots on the over head map, but not the mini-map. That way when you're waiting to spawn in you could see if anyone was camping it |

A deployable scanner would be great as a separate item, a good strategy would be to put one near a droplink, or on the approach behind your position when guarding an area. |

To me, that promotes camping a bit too much. I'd say having to take time to use an active scanner is good enough |

Drop uplinks aren't much help if they are being camped. Most people don't use them because of the fear that they are camped. There should be some indication that its not safe. |

So, what about having a drop uplink module?
Seems good to me. |

I didn't know that drop uplinks followed your squad member around. Interesting. Sarcasm aside, your idea only makes sense when your squad is standing still, or if they drop them all over the place behind them as they go. Squad spawning, which is what he's implying, puts you right next to or in the immediate vicinity of your squad mate. Not on an uplink he dropped on the other side of the map 5 minutes ago. And I suppose I agree that this is in the wrong section. |

Dislike. Totally negates the point and need of the uplinks. You can already spawn at the MCC, CRUs, objectives, and drop uplinks. If you can't figure out how to stay with your squad with those, you're doing something wrong. I don't even want to see this available for spawning at squad-leader-only. |

He is probably talking about ambush. On Skirmish, is another story.

OP is thinking of something similar to GRFS, I believe. And in this game the idea is terrible. You want coordination, get your mic on and talk. That's what it exists for. |

Still doesn't make it a good mechanic when we have something like drop uplinks. It's obnoxious to have an enemy materialize around the corner from you in the middle of a firefight because he spawned on his teammate that ran from you. |

Apologies! Yes, I did mean Ambush and not Skirmish. This would be awful in Skirmish, you wouldn't have flying CRU's when you already have grounded ones.
Also, I was almost positive I was in Feedback when I hit new topic. I guess I'll need to find someone to move this over..
Tiel, if we're able to spawn after 10 seconds, there's no reason I can't have myself get shot to my squad's position. Though thinking about it, based on how long it takes to kill someone, that would make it really difficult to take on a freshly spawned squadmate |
