No way to roll/jump out of the way of an oncoming LAV. This is stupid. Why pay for expensive suits when an LAV can just run you down because you can't move out of the way?
No animations for entering/exiting vehicles is -stupid-. There's absolutely no reason that a Heavy should be able to just pop out of an LAV ready to go and mow you down at shotgun range before you can turn around.
What the hell is the signature of these LAVs, for that matter? I've had scouts show up on my minimap faster than LAVs.
By far the most annoying part is the extraordinary lack of an engine sound, but there's already a thousand threads for that.
Seriously. Fix this ****. It's the most frustrating aspect of this entire game. |

Assaults can sprint and jump and unless you only see the LAV at the last second, you'll be clear of the movement path.
And pretty much everything shows up when they're in line of sight, and if they aren't in front of you, they'll only be visible if someone else is doing the spotting. |

Jeeps and tanks should do a certain amount of damage to infantry when they run someone over like 200 damage at full speed |

+1 just because I want faster strafe speed/dodge. Double-tap unreal style FTW! Tie it to stamina if you want.

Every player gets a free LAV. It's not as good as the SP one, but it can still OHK just the same. I'd be fine with them getting rid of the free LAV. |

Make the player do equal damage to the vehicle running them over as the players total eHP.
An entering/exit animation for all vehicles would be nice, especially dropships and such |

Swarm Launcher won't stop an LAV from hitting you and the lock-on time is ridiculous compared to how fast they move. Plasma Cannon might work out better though, we'll see what happens.

Militia Swarm Launcher with no SP investment may not be good enough to get a lock in time unless you're good at dodging, but unless you're in a Heavy suit (in which case, bring a Forge Gun instead), you SHOULD be able to avoid the first pass (except if they're running silent, which is a legitimate problem) and when you do, that gives you more time to get your lock or move to a position where they can't run you over.
Staying in good cover, looking both ways before you cross an open area that could pass for a road, and having good AV players on your team are all good ways to negate LAVs as a threat. |

Agreed, they did this with militia Drop suits (kinda as we still have a few free load outs for obvious reasons). though being Militia it needs to stay dirt cheep. IMO anything more than 2k ISK per hull is pushing it as the real money is in the Modules anyway.

None of this addresses my biggest pet peeve in that Heavies use the damn LAVs as fast travel and can get right up on you in a hurry.
There seriously needs to be an animation of entering/exiting a vehicle to stop that bullshit - can't stand losing a suit to some meat head who a standard suit/heavy machine gun because he just magically popped out of the LAV ready to go. |

There was a good thread hoverbikes replacing the free LAV as a troops transport. free or cheap, it's fast but has no weapons and would suck for hitting people with. |

I've been specializing in crushing people with LAVs because the LAV becomes your health when driving, essentially, which is more than a suit, you move super fast, and hitting any suit is insta-kill. And because the controls are difficult, making it more fun.
However, I agree that the LAVs are just silly, in regards to the "free" versions. I would still specialize in them if you get rid of the free version, but the free version is rather Over-Powered, being free. Since its a free, fast moving insta-kill, machine. I've reasoned that the hard to control nature, and high speed collisions destroying it, makes up for the insta-kill nature, but the "free" version ... can't reason that one, with the various pros; other than: because it is beta.
Although, I think that side swipes, the version that is currently insta-killing suits(, I think it might be like the front corners of the vehicle which is hitting), but not particularly slowing LAV movement too much, should be changed to only do partial suit damage, like 50-75%, instead of insta-kills. And if that is implemented, the reduced damage side sweep, then a side of vehicle collision, or true side-sweep, should also do some damage to suits; maybe it already does, and maybe it is lag that makes it seem like it happens a lot without it happening, but it seems like collision to the side of the LAV, using hand-break sweeps don't do damage, which is disappointing.
Another work around, but probably a problem as it means adding a new suit positioning feature, is to remove insta-kill from all but high speed collisions, and replace it with damage + knock-back, resulting in "downed" positioning for the suit, and make it so downed positions can be run over by LAVs with little to no damage, but a player can't attack or use modules in downed position. But against HAV, they'd get insta-killed in downed positions, being run over by the treads. The "Downed position" being sort of like a 'feigned death' move. (Although, the current splayed dead suit on the hood of the LAV, slowing movement, is awesome, in and of itself.)
DUST514, the new 'Wave Race' Looking both ways before crossing the road, was never so important. |
