I been trying the laser rifle and its an okay weapon. Any tips for what modules to put and what skills to upgrade? Also , I was checking the stats between the basic laser rifle and the advance, didn't see much of a difference.I usually play as a logistic. |

there is a huge difference between the standard LR and the ELM. the elm builds up damage faster and doesn't overheat at all. with the ROF it has the bonus from damage mods help you get some crazy damage heading downrange.
the next most important thing is to make sure you can fire long enough to get the LR hot enough to kill someone. you can do this two different routes.
The most straight forward way is to bring a bunch of tank. get your hp as high as you can so you can take damage until you have a powerful enough beam to melt some fools faces off. I pair a heavy suit with my laser most of the time so i can do just that.
The other way you can use the LR well is to have a low profile and get the drop on people.
One of the most important skills for using the laser rifle well is scrambler pistol operations and other sidearm skills. the LR has decreased efficiency up close so when you have to get into some CQC break out the scrambler pistol. the scrambler has the best headshot bonus in the game so it can end fights quick if you can get headshots.
I also recommend the scrambler based on it having a better range than the SMG so you won't be totally helpless.
and one tip on using the LR is that you should sometimes heat up your beam by intentionally missing with the beam for a second or two before dropping it down onto an enemy's head to kill them before they can react. If you start shooting someone with the LR with the start of the beam you won't be doing enough damage to kill them out right and they can dodge into cover.
Go forth and burn some nerds.

the LR deals 120% vs shields and 80% vs armor so relying more on armor gives you a more of a chance.
If the merc next to you sizzles to a crisp, there is a great chance you are going to get burned next. the LR builds up damage as it fires so when the beam gets brought onto you it will be dealing much more damage than when it killed your squad mate. if you hear the sizzle take cover.
When pinned down by a LR it's a bad idea to try to poke around the corner. often times I get a kill from keeping shooting when someone dives behind cover, by the time they poke their head back out again my beams hot enough to fry them quick. You are better off just trying to find a different way to approach the situation.
Just remember the MCC's of dealing with lasers
Mobility - If you get pinned down in one place you're gonna have a bad time Cover - don't go out in the open. Close the gap - LR users have to use a sidearm up close so hit them where they are weakest.
not really sure why i'm giving out tips on how to kill me. I guess flattery does get you somewhere after all, Free. |

All hail the Elm-7, all hail the Elm-7!
It's a slick weapon, I'm probably getting a third or half of all my kills using that weapon now. There's a laser thread by Cazaderon floating around somewhere with damage numbers and discussion on it, worth a read.
Take int what Talos said it was good advice. Don't try and run straight away or even at an angle from a laser it will only kill you quicker, if you're within 20m of the laser user run towards them and they'll do a lot less damage. This is especially good if you are carrying a smg as you close into your own optimal range for max damage.
People getting caught in open with no cover are laser bbq burgers, use any cover you can to save yourself. People will often try to just duel with me when I'm running my laser scout and they are using ARs, if the distance is right then they usually lose.
That's the fun thing about lasers, you have to maintain a certain distance from enemies when using it to get the most out of the weapon. |

The variations of the Laser rifle have been nerfed - so skill up, but the basic still works just fine.
Note: as a logi you have no side arm so choosing a distance weapon is a risky choice. I would fall back on fuse grenades as your side arm or just learn to stay out of the middle of the battle and support from a distance. It is a difficult weapon to get the hang of, good luck.
And is is also the only one i use.

Agreed, the laser rifle is almost as good as the elm now and only costs a third of it. The difference is 4 shots more for the elm which is silly.
I've reverted to using the standard laser rifle and I'm getting just as many kills as before with it. |

Last build Light Weapon Sharpshooter (LWS) increased both max and min effective range making it only effective at longer ranges. Became kind of a questionable skill to raise depending on use. There was talk of fixing this so only the max range was increased.
Any observations on the current interplay between LWS and LR? |
