I just can't stand the idea of a game trying to be logical within the New Eden universe that allows you to empty a magazine into your teamate without hurting him, or throw grenades or tank shells into a melee with some of your teamates, knowing that it will only kill the bad guys. That breeds inattentive habits and bad gameplay. How are we supposed to get anything done in Faction Warfare if people just pitch grenades without thinking and wipe out entire friendly squads.
If it absolutely has to be there, why not just have a system that prevents you from firing your gun when a teamate is in your crosshairs? This way you don't shoot teamates by accident, and you still get penalized for chucking grenades at friendlies, as it should be. |

I have no idea if this kind of thing is technically feasible, and this would only be for high sec. See now, that's what I just said. Isn't that a better option? I would much prefer such a system to what we have now. |

If you are going to have friendly fire at least make it somewhat realistic. You still end up with the issue of making this concept work with indirect and explosive weapons like mass drivers though. Well, I personally don't see an issue with allowing them to damage friendlies, and the applying penalties when you do so. Yes, this provides a means for people to screw up in spectacular fashion, but it also allows for them to get into the habit of not throwing grenades without paying attention to where they're going. |
