OOC: Huh, seems like a fun thread... I guess I'll throw in my lot... To be fair, I've been keeping up with most of this lore and even the other forum thread... SO, I guess I'll start fresh! THIS IS GONNA BE FUN!
Sitting in a throne cold as the most distant souls, the Ancient One had awoken. The Wretched Lord of Doomgoth, Nashir, stood. Since the beginning of his slumber nearly eight hundred years ago, he was the last of his immortal kin: the Primordials, the Ancient beings created in millennia past.
Nashir awoke to find himself as things were before: dead and cold. He liked it. But one thing stood out in his mind. Why was he awake now of all times? Something was new in the land, as if turmoil had broken the runes cast by himself. Despite his questions, Nashir knew chaos was stirring and that havoc was waiting to be wreaked.
SERVANTS! ARISE FROM THINE SLUMBER! Nashir projected, not by voice, but by pure will.
From the deadened halls of Varendal Tower, hordes rose from their cold sleep. Thousands of liches, skeletons, and demonic elementals sprang from their resting places, donned in tattered armor of ancient eras and wielding the archaic weapons not seen in centuries. Pleased with his handiwork, Nashir had one more objective.
Whispering into the cold wind, Nashir willed a command: Go, and bring me the tidings of this age...
It was time, once again, to raise his legions against the world, to conquer Dustia. |

Ner'Zul Nexhawk wrote://OOC: Nimrod, welcome! And wow, what an intro! It's really exciting to have a brand new character enter our story. I hope you will fine the experience of writing in this thread as pleasant and satisfying as we do. A friendly tip, however: make sure, if you haven't already, to read through the entire thread. I realize that this read can be extremely daunting by now, but personally, when I entered this thread more than 50 pages ago, I had quite a few debates over the lore points with the 'veterans' of the thread, which could easily be avoided if I knew the main points of the storyline. Here's hoping that, maybe, Xavier will come back from the oblivion that he has dissipated into recently and provide one of his trademark satiric summaries. //End of OOC\\ It took only a few hours for the Embershard and the airships to reach Arteum, and soon enough Nexhawk, the other Ashborn, and Alixenus with the Engineer were greeted by the splendor and opulence of the Capital of the Sands. They had no time to gawk, however, and the three leaders hurriedly rushed to the massive structure in the middle of the city that seemed to resemble a huge palace. Upon ascending the stairs in front of the palace's entrance, the trio was stopped by the two guards that inquired, "Who are you, and what is your business here?" Nexhawk waved the questions off and bluntly stated, "Tell Sandromin the leaders of Ardorium, Venezzia, and the Collective need to see him. Immediately."
OOC: Thanks meng. And don't worry, I've been lurking this thread for quite a while (about Christmas to be exact); I just felt I needed a perfect time to reveal my TRUE intentions. I usually don't play this character all too much because I have a main character involved with corporate politics and such. However, I've kept up with this thread so far... and now... I am ready... TO CONQUER DUSTIA!

Nashir stood from his throne as a gale of wind blew into the hall. The wind brought the tidings of the era, and indeed, Nashir found himself in the maelstrom of the era! Glorious chaos surrounded him and he was going to take advantage of it. As if a new air was surging around the world, Dustia found itself feeling the rise of the Ancient One in its very core.
All ye undead across the land, come to the dead lands of Doomgoth! Arise, and bring forth the chaos!
Nashir had summoned all to him; the time had come for his ancient evils to spread across the land once more. From the ferals in the north to the liches in the south, the Legions of the Undead was gathering. And from thence on, Nashir became known as Nashir-Ur, the Ancient One Risen in the now-dead Therisian tongue.
Soon, my legion will accumulate on this island. Soon, I will conquer this land. Soon...
Using dark magic from a reservoir of his nearly limitless power, Nashir opened a rift that tore a hole in the air just outside of his tower. Through that very rift, the dead marched and marched, creating a horde, the likes of which had never been seen on Dustia... |

The island was silent; no hint of life, or rather unlife, remained. In the fortress of the Primordial Lord, not even the Dark Lord Nashir-Ur was to be found. Verily, throughout the halls, there was no sign of the undead army that was formerly there. Only a disquieting and sinister air lingered throughout the entire island of Doomgoth. While the halls themselves were dead, there was one passage that spiraled down into an abyss.
Staring down the abyss, a typical mortal could only see one thing: an eerie red glow that rhythmically pulsated. But to anyone possessing keener sight, something completely abnormal could be spotted. There was simply a portal, an abstract doorway into a dimension unknown...

Out Of Character: Everyone remembers my portal? GOOD!
Darkness. Utter Darkness. Not a single ray of light shone in the void. But invariably, something was there. Something sinister. Something. But Nashir-Ur had been here before. Centuries ago, when the contract was made, he was here. And here he was again, in the darkness, to talk to it. The being that controlled this ethereal realm. Him.
You. You're back, for something from me, I presume. So... what... do you want, Nashir?
The times are changing, and to reflect that, I am now Nashir-Ur. As for what I want, you know very well. I want a contract.
Everybody wants a contract from me. The question is, what do you want?
The tome.
You... you know very well I cannot give you the tome. I may be ancient, but all-powerful I am not. I have been weak for these past millennium, biding my time, cursing my brother for destroying me.
If you cannot give me the tome, I want the first weapon... the Dark Blade...
That... That I can give you...

Nashir-Ur emerged back into the world of the living. His undead army was still in the void between worlds, ready to be sent to the ancient portals within the ruins of much older races, long dead to the sands of time. But something was missing, and thus, he held his hand out, in the frigid air of Doomgoth. With each second's passing, the air grew colder and his aura grew stronger. Runes could be seen for but a mere second, flickering in and out of this realm around Nashir-Ur. And... something arose from the ground.
At first, it was a shadow. But, arising from the ground, a form could be seen. It eventually became apparent what he was summoning: a stone sarcophagus. Wrapped in chains, the sarcophagus had no defining features other than a passage of language long dead to the current world. However, the contents of the sarcophagus were what mattered to Nashir at this time. He wanted the remains inside, for they were important.
It was the corpse of an unknown champion, a man who gave his very soul for a contract much like Nashir-Ur had made mere minutes prior. The champion had belonged to a people long past, proud warriors by birth, and the contract was one of war; in it, the hero had traded his life for the glory of battle. His name was long lost, but Nashir-Ur had plans for him. With one stroke of his hand, the chains came off and the lid fell from the sarcophagus.
And inside was a skeleton, shrouded in armor, still untarnished from years within the coffin. The armor gleamed, with the luster of adamantium. Perfect. All of it was perfect for Nashir's intentions. And thus, he snapped his fingers, bringing the corpse to life; Nashir-Ur now had a general, the Vicar Ur.

Ner'Zul Nexhawk wrote://OOC: Meanwhile, at our travelers' mobistat... //End of OOC\\
Nexhawk nodded at SandrominGÇÖs proposal. GÇ£I have already mentioned this legend of a god named ZakGÇÖResh that ruled over death until he was struck down by the other gods. Even though details elude me now, I shall try to search for them in my memory.GÇ¥
Fallen godGǪ fallen godGǪ no, wait, fallenGǪtitan. Wait, thatGÇÖs it! GÇ£ItGÇÖs coming back now!GÇ¥ he exclaimed after a minute of pondering and immediately began his tale.
GÇ£This legend, this myth describes the events that transpired a very long time ago on Praecantaria. I assume that youGÇÖve heard of the Firstborn Mir, the founders of the four nations of that continent and the ones who spread their magic among all inhabitants of their countries. So, ZakGÇÖResh was the last living Firstborn, the Titan of Thunder, the founder of Aethereum, the WindweaversGÇÖ domain. Although all other Firstborn had already died of their ancient age, this primeval being somehow kept on roaming the continent, seemingly unaging. Everyone wondered why he survived for so long, and no one knew his secret - ZakGÇÖResh had discovered the Spring of Youth, a source of waters that gave everlasting life to their imbiber. Using his powerful magic, he had created an immensely powerful link with the Spring so that it would always let him thrive in his journeys across the continent. At first the Titan used this immortality simply to live longer and observe all the events that occurred on Praecantaria throughout many ages.GÇ¥
GÇ£However, where life flows, death follows closely behind. And the waters of the Spring, along with granting immortal life, concealed a dark secret within themselves - the power to tame death itself. The legend doesnGÇÖt say how exactly this had happened, but somehow ZakGÇÖResh discovered that secret. ThatGÇÖs when his benevolence got all twisted. Power corrupts, as you undoubtedly know, and the Titan of Thunder chose to utilize his new powers to rain devastation, desolation, and dread upon Praecantaria. In essence, he was the first Deathlord, except no one really knew of him.GÇ¥
GÇ£You see, ZakGÇÖResh promptly fled from the continent upon the discovery of these powers. For what reason, it is unknown, but it appears that he wanted to raise an army of the dead and unleash it upon Praecantaria, controlling it from a faraway land, so that no one would suspect anything about the source of this chaos. But the gods are all-seeing, and ZakGÇÖReshGÇÖs plan did not escape their observing minds. They descended upon this land he hid himself in and attempted to stop him, but their own creation, the Spring of Youth, fuelled his life force so greatly that he simply could not be defeated. The link between the Titan and the Spring was also virtually indestructible, and so the gods had no other choice but to destroy the source of immortality itself. And so the Spring of Youth was destroyed before any mortal inhabitant of Praecantaria discovered it, which is why this is simply a myth that may or may not be true.GÇ¥
GÇ£Anyways, the Titan of Thunder, now void of his everlasting life, became imprisoned in the land he fled to and most likely died of old age, for there was nothing left to sustain him now. And this is the entire legend,GÇ¥ Nexhawk concluded. GÇ£Note that it may not have any connection whatsoever to the dark and dreadful being whom we may face soon enough. But if it doesGǪGÇ¥ Nexhawk gazed in the air within the mobistat, not looking at anyone in particular, GÇ£then maybe ZakGÇÖResh is not dead, and maybe he has found another way to bring his horrifying plot to fruition. At any rate, this still remains to be seen.GÇ¥ With that, the Fiery Lord fell silent.
//OOC: Nimrod, I will leave this entirely up to you: do you want this legend to somehow connect to Nashir-Ur, or is it simply a petty rambling of an old man? The choice is yours. //End of OOC\\
As with many myths, there is a grain of truth hidden somewhere in there. But, we'll explain my origins soon enough.
