after bringing up my shotgun skills i realized that the skill actually has a negative impact on the shot gun.
taking away the spray while still maintaining the insulting CQC range. this limits the shot gun to a pathetic weapon after someone steps 10 feet away. the damage already can instant kill if you are point blank and having a higher level shotgun doesn't seem to matter.
hit detection garbage, terrible dual shock controls aside using a militia shotgun is actually better than a leveled up higher level shot gun.
it's cheaper it does the same damage to a face at point blank range and it has an area of effect (something some players are dead set on removing).
the skill needs to be changed to actually benefit the weapon and not hinder it. |

Paul Etrades wrote:yeah i'm a logi shot gunner and i just used some AUR to buy the purmenent militia shotgun and i haven't put a point into skills because the skills are so dip****y. Why would you ever want to decease spread if your not increasing range? i realized this after i started leveling my shotgun skills. i was using the level 1 shotgun as i continued to level it and started getting less kills than i normally do. i used the higher level ones that you find in salvage and it was actually the worst shot gun i have ever used.
then i went back to the shotgun and because it isn't hindered by the shotgun level i started killing more.
it is completely ass backwards the way skills are supposed to work.
sure you can pin point shots at a small area of opportunity but the range is so pathetic you have to be on top of enemies anyway. if they are more than 10 steps away i usually try to run and hide because i will just get gunned down by their AR if i charge forward. |

Shotgun with more than level 3 Operations: Line up on the back of that target's head, pull the trigger, and it's a guaranteed kill on anything short of a Heavy. If you're into Shotgun Proficiency, higher levels also make a surprisingly large difference to the speed at which you can kill a Heavy, or a fast-moving Scout near the edge of your range.
Reduced spread doesn't increase RANGE, but because of how spread works on the Shotguns, it increases how much damage you deal at longer (still close enough to hit) range. i have never seen a shotgun blast deal anything but an instant kill or a no damage shot at point blank range. the lovely hit detection sees to that.
i stopped bothering with anything but the militia shot gun because the larger spread allows you to hit something when the hit box is lagging behind the target.
as for what your saying about the instant killing target it doesn't matter point blank in the back of the head will kill anyone.
and with a higher spread with a moving target you have a higher chance of hitting a moving target at 3 feet when they are bunnyhopping around.
if you use a KB/M i can see a point in having a decreased spread, because you have more accuracy but with the craptacular controller and different speeds with up down left right aiming you are going to be missing a bunnyhopping target and it's better to deal damage than no damage.
the shotgun i feel isn't a shot gun but a mini flame thrower. it fires a small fire blast in an insanely close range. decreasing the fire ball's area while increasing the intensity of the fireball decreases the effective area it covers while the militia does the opposite. point blank they do the same and at around 10 paces they do roughly the same. even with maxed out sharpshooting you only increase the distance by 2 paces while an AR can blast the crap out of you. friend of mine uses the lvl 4 shotgun with maxed skills and it has the same effectiveness as my militia. the difference in area coverage is only 50% more which is still very little and mine costs a fraction of what his costs.
same instant kills at the back of the head, same fatal results at being out of optimal range. I'll take the militia over the overpriced piece of crap with counter intuitive skills any day. |

Reimus Klinsman wrote:At very close ranges and pin point aiming, the shotgun can miss at stationary target. The spread is far too large to hit anything. The skill itself is fine and definitely worth getting to Lv5. The tighter the shot, the higher chance you have to hit something you are aiming at.
If you can't aim worth anything, don't level the skill. Pinpoint aim? you might as well get a pistol it does better job at that and with a much higher damage percent
shot gun all the shots hit at point blank, with militia or with a level 5. it doesn't matter it benefits nothing. you line up a head all the shots will hit the head and drop the enemy. |

xAckie wrote:noticed this too. I got to lvl 3 and realised it was not as effective CQC . It is totally backward as you say. Wish I could undo what I did
larger target radius = higher chance to hit the target
it may only be 50% but i would rather have that in this game with lagging hit boxes, delayed bullet reactions, and other nonsense that infuriates me.
after leveling my shotgun i had to go back to using the militia to get back my large target radius because if i used even the level 1 it was pinpointed. |
