Hello Dust Community, I just started a few days ago. I started off with a positive kill and death ratio then i died too much after a few other matches. I picked the Heavy specialist to get the Weapon III and upgraded further got the HMG as soon as possible, but i noticed that HMG cost a lot and not really worth using Heavy with the current death ratio streak that i have. I sometimes get 8 kills before i die as heavy, but usually i die as a militia assault before i can kill the other guy.
Is there something i'm doing wrong? Are laser assault rifles the way to go? What should I upgrade next? Also i noticed that i can't use swarm launchers on an enemy infantry...should i try to get forage cannon and shoot infantry with it? I'm planning to get the Ammar Heavy dropsuit Type 1 next, but i'm not sure if it's a good idea to waste 700,000 isk on the skill if it's going to be similar to the militia Heavy dropsuit.

Don't go forge heavy quite yet, get some solid skills behind you first, both SP and gameplay ones. You won't be able to keep up with the costs unfortunately.
Best thing to do is to make an almost free militia assault fit and practice your gun game whilst earning pennies.
Get more skills into the cpu and pg abilities as well as weapon upgrades across the board in whatever you are interested. It makes it easier to fit whatever you want on your suits.
Lasers are good weapons but you'll have more luck with the assault rifles as they work up close too whilst lasers need distance to do decent damage. |

A heavy is a great class to play. Your adjustment to this game is just like all of our own experiences - frustration abounds.
Heavies carry massive guns and are slow. You must learn how to use the pro's and cons of such an arrangement. Focus on short to medium range gunplay. Use the terrain to bottleneck enemies or find cover. Do not go into the open, you are the most threatening when in a closed space with the HMG spitting out fire. Keep to a group - there are some great players that can go on their own and kill everyone - most people cant. If you can find yourself a logibro to hang with all the better.
Realize that you will be making 100k isk each time, more is great but work from your minimums. Create your dropsuits accordingly and set a limit of loss for each game. Set up a free build (militia stuff) and a pay build (costs isk/AUR). Keep yourself profitable by understanding that when you loose X amount of pay suits you need to switch to free suits in order to start your savings account.
Use an LAV - you are slow, use a free LAV and dump it when you get to where you want to go. They are swarmer bait so don't get attatched to them.
Lastly - Heavies have great Armor or Shields depending on the type you choose. Naturally armored Max your passive bonuses to Armor HP and Shield HP to help you last longer in games. You will get it, it just takes time.
Hope that helps |

Thanks for the tips guys. I just spend a ton of my SP on Assault Rifle Operations. Got to lvl 4 and trying to get lvl 5 so i can start on my AR proficiency. But yea I guess the only good time to use a Heavy is with a big group of people and I noticed that enemy heavy often chew me up with still 1/4 health left...i'm guess my heavy has weaker items. Also tired Heavy with assault rifle, and it was ok...but heavy is kind of slow and get hit easily so it like a double edge sword with AR.
Anyone got any wisdom on Mass Drivers? I planning to try that weapon next. is it possible to buy militia blueprints? I noticed that I can't setup any militia new builds unless i duplicate my starter kit, but then when i try to add something that my other starter build has to my custom build then it show the qty # and not infinite sign. |

Mass Drivers are gonna be frustratingly fun When they first appeared I skilled into them and found them very difficult but fun. Just used them for the first time in a while and did decent damage for a return to it. It's also relatively cheap, but it's easy to lose to. I recommend using it in dense fighting, where there is a group of enemies, that way you make the most of the limited ammo. It only carries twelve shots that get used up fast. |
