Not everyone who plays can afford boosters, which increase the SP cap and the SP accrual rate. The argument here for this is that it only gives a temporary advantage since things will even out in the end after everyone's played long enough. However "in the end" is supposed to be years down the road. Which means people will be disadvantaged for longer than they may ever plan to be playing this game.
I would like to request alternate forms of boosters to allow people who don't have the money to pay $30 a month on boosters to be able to stay competitive while still allowing people to pay for a slight advantage. I suggest offering high priced ISK boosters. They do not speed up your accrual rate, but they raise your SP cap to the same level so that with enough effort you can still keep up SP wise with everyone else. Then you can offer the AUR SP boosters that you have now which raise the cap AND give you a higher accrual rate.
People who don't have the ISK or don't want to save the ISK for it will be disadvantaged and it will slow down the amount of high priced equipment fielded, but on the up side everyone can still have the opportunity to get the same amount of SP without having to basically pay a subscription to get it.

I'm guessing you will be able to buy boosters for isk from ppl that paid for the boosters and put them on the market. Ppl will probably sell them at a pricey isk rate, but the option will be there.
As for a booster that just increases your sp cap without the sp bonus... I think i like that idea as another booster option for aur, which then can be bought and put on the market for isk. |

While its true that not everyone would want to spend money on boosters, it is actually the best investment you can make. If you buy the merc pack which is $20 in the US market, you get an active 30 day booster along with 40000 AUR. With 28000 AUR you can buy 4 7 day passive boosters which will last you for a month. So for $20 you are pretty much getting the advantage all AUR buyers have.
And makin $20 bucks a month is easy. All you have do is flip burgers at Macs for 3 hours or mow your neighbors lawn for $20 bucks. Easy money. And it would be good for ya. Heck I pay the kids my community $20 bucks an hour to clean my pool .

True, but until the secondhand market is fully functional and the game picks up properly, this will be very difficult to do. If the game goes live without a fully functioning market this can be an issue, not to mention very few are going to have the ISK right out of the gate for these, which means those without will be left out of the loop while those paying cash can fly ahead of the rest of the pack.
All I want out of this game is for it to be pay to win as little as possible, and doing what I laid out above would really help things go in that direction. At least until the second hand market is fully active. |

Everyone's financial situation is different, and this would help keep things even. |

I see your point and hope the market and industrial stuff get sorted out long before it goes live. Once something like that is put on the market from ccp, then it becomes hard to take it away because the community will scream bloody murder unless it was way more expensive than what ppl would resell them for.
I'll just hope for the market to be finished before that because on the very first day we can resell stuff, i'm sure there will be lots of boosters on the market, even if we are still in beta. Then in a couple months time, an average aur to isk rate will be established by the players. |

So i gather that what your saying is that the Active Boosters would work as such?
-AUR Variant = Increased SP Cap + Boosted SP gain.
-ISK Variant = Same Increased SP Cap?
So in short it's about how much effort one has to put in? The AUR Variant buyers have an easier time getting to the raised SP cap since they get boosted SP while the ISK variants just have their Cap raised so that they can, through effort, achieve the same amount of SP as the AUR guys?
I think that might be slightly redundant if i'm understanding it right. As it really doesn't change much of anything and then forces those that want to be competitive to buy overpriced ISK Variants to stay on par with the AUR Variant users AND you would have to play more often than them just to hit the same Cap.
Honestly i think a better option would be to make the SP gained by the AUR boosters, suffer from the normal cap that everbody is under already. Now naturally i don't like the current 500,000 a week Cap and would like it to be raised, but some people who would like to play but don't have the time to might be glad the cap is low because it means they still have a chance to catch up during the week. I would like to see SP Boosters increase the rate at which you hit the Cap but not "raise" the cap.
I believe this would achieve the same result your looking for Overlord, minus having to spend ISK on a new item.

I have to disagree with you on this one free, because the people that are using Aurum are actually using real money, so they should get the extra bonus. not have it taken away because of the people that dont use aurum. Those of us that use aurum for boosters and other items do so for a reason, it is a slight advantage, albeit a very slight advantage. |

CCP needs to make money and this is their best way. I doubt they would make an ISK variant for boosters. |

You are off on your timeline.
It will take years to totally max out a character with every skill in the game, but only 2-3 months to max out one role. We are only a few weeks into the current build, yet many players are running proto in their chosen role.
New players will always be at a disadvantage until they get a few weeks into the game, and that will be true for the life of DUST. However once they get that far they will be competitive. After that its just a matter of becoming more flexible in your capabilities.
Boosters will be a real help for the first couple months, but even then they won't be absolutely necessary when the match making system has more players to work with. |

But sir you must also take into consideration that EVE players will be able to buy AUR with ISK and therefore buy the boosters... Then my advice to you would be to join a corp the has that ability and work hard.If I were CEO and had said corp(EVE) and had billions of ISK and you were an active player then I would make this available to you for your dedicated participation.
and on review of my previous statement a single word comes to mind.......GOONS.
So on second thought this is not good at all,and should not be considered unless some millionaire wants to try the same.Which would be great if this person spent this hypothetical money as it would make the game that much better for all those involved.CCP has continued to add to its game by the shear fact that the game is paid for by subscription. That is why the game has not died because its parent corp (CCP)remains viable and can employ its staff .

Yhis man is absolutely correct.Within2 or 3 monthes a "player" should have at least one class under wraps,if done correctly. So that person will be doing fine in that role. Now the other guy who wants to be everyman/every mission he can pay for that.If we take this 2-3 month single class max method a person is looking at 60 dollars U.S......isnt that what most games are going for these days?

I like this idea Overlord. If the ISK players are willing to put the time and effort into getting that same SP by playing and earning it instead of paying for it then there should be some sort of option. Boosters are a huge part of this game and having less money shouldn't put a player at a disadvantage. |

All of you have valid points, but the fact remains that this would help support those who wish to play the game AUR free while still giving an incentive to buying AUR.

I like your idea. But I don't think you're aggressive enough. I don't think the cap should be different for anyone. The booster which is paid for by aurum should only increase the rate at which you reach that cap. So more sp per match with booster but same per week.
I am a booster user and would contInue to be. But it seems kinda odd for a game to allow you to increase the total sp cap by paying money. That's pay to win imo. But I pay, so I can't complain. |
