Talnos Nosslu wrote:Another idea for a potential game 'mode'.
Much like EVE Capsuleers protect their ships with Insurance, there would be a new 'Mercenary Contract' option which will allow Dust players to attack or defend said ship upon request. These could be listed as "Priority Missions" on the Battle Finder, where players can join a match and determine the outcome of an EVE Pilot's situation.
Note that one of these contracts would be required to 'Raid' another EVE Pilot's ship.
And exactly how would you get them there in the first place to actual raid the ship? Also most fights in EvE are not planned. They just happen. Most are over in a matter of minutes. A match on here lasts longer then most ship battles. |

Mobius Wyvern wrote:Let Us Fight in Ships thread #307 It'll probably never happen, and the both games will be better for the lack of it.
I'm beginning to think that a lot of the people making these ideas haven't even got the gumption to even check out EvE and how the system operates. Before even thinking up these ideas. Granted some are good. Some are just the stupidest thing ever and would kill any game. Some of them are even in other games. But, I think that seriously some of these posters should give it a try just to get an understanding of what CCP is working with system wise. |

However.
If things are done at a slower pace, as in PvP'ers seeking to 'Raid' a ship - NOT Destroy the thing, like people usually do - add a new perspective to how things are done in both EVE and Dust - provided they could take an entire ship, or at least plunder better quality salvage than from a ship's obliterated remains. Sometimes all I ask is for a little thought on the matter.
You're talking about remaking the game from the ground up. Not gonna happen. In the end it'd be just an arena game like black prophecy. There's no way you could get enough people on Dust to even manage one Titan. And the salvage in terms of modules and other parts is chance based when the ship blows up. The rest is for rigs anyways. |

Insurance is for the ship when it blows up. Sure, maybe they could set it up. Not easily. And most pvpers will not care about capturing the ship. They want the killmail, whatever the wreck drops or ransom not to blow it up. Secondly, you still have the added issue of how do the mercs get from where they are to the ship. Thirdly, if they took out ships actually exploding. That means modules and everything else will stay in one piece. This presents an economic problem with the market. If you no longer have to manufacture ships or modules. No more mining. It'd turn into something like STO. And fourthly, if they did n't take out ship destruction. And they did add this. What's to keep the mercs from backstabbing? |

Hmmmm, well very few people in EvE would ever trust someone running around in their ship. They'd rather self destruct. Not sure how the better salvage would work since modules are massive and would need a forklift pretty much to move them. Plus, they're hardwired. Also the fleet and corp ops thing. Mining fleets, what few corps do them. Will always generally dock up if enemy players are in system. And that's both high and nulsec. No one mines in lowsec that is an older player. And new players have nothing pirates want except the killmail. As for combat ops those consist of roaming fleets. Most of which means blob warfare. In order for your idea to work. They would have to take out that ships can explode. Or make the hp of ships massively high and lower weapon damages to very low lvls. No one would want that because they get irritated enough doing POS bashes a station takeovers. Just to take one station or outpost in nul is 4 to 5 hours of a 30 to 40 dread/titan mix fleet beating on it. |

Ranger SnakeBlood wrote:If nothing is destroyed what exactly is the thing up for grabs the ship its self, its modules, its cargo? if its just the cargo its possible sure just have the ultimite goal of the mission to break in and jettison the entire cargo hold it would be an annoyance and would add another danger to eve but would also offer a new alternative to suicide ganking just to get the cargo and now you dont actualy have to lose your ship if you happen to be victim of it
Except with new bounty system it's more profitable now to kill the ship. Especially if it's a freighter or jump freighter.
Edit: Hi-jacking cargo would be cool. |
