My 1080p TV went out on me over the summer so I am now using an older projection TV that has 480i, 480p and 1080i only. It's a hand-me-down that my parents gave us to use until we buy a new one. It's one of the first 'HD' TVs made, hence the 1080i only.
Playing this game really sucks on this TV because the display is so incredibly poor. Today I realized that this beta is displaying in 480p instead of 1080i and just wondering if it's because of my ancient TV. I'm hoping that it's just a temporary thing and that the release build will be capable of at least 1080i or better yet, 720p (1080p is too much to ask for I know).
Jeez, I can't wait to get a new TV once Christmas is over and every extra penny isn't going to buying crap for other people. It's going to be great seeing everything in real HD again! Pretty sure 3D is going to be a necessity in my next set too.

oh, I'm sorry mate : (
If you makes you feel better black friday 40 in 1080 p TVs were like, 150$. And the new 4k TVs are coming out in 2 months so the price should go back down to black friday prices if the trend stays the same as other years. |

Yeah, the game is currently running at 720p, not much point going up to 1080p until they fix the texture loading issue (which I understand is a problem with the unreal engine, not the game per se). |

The game presents itself in 720p, i also thought that since i had a 1080p TV that everything would get better quality...which isn't the case. if a game is only rendered in 720 and your tv has a higher resolution it will upscale the display to your tv's resolution but will stay in 720 quality. My TV is a 55in 1080p HD, i was using an HD 42in 720p...DUST actually looks better on my 42in because its not upscaled and is a 720 tv.
So if you have a TV that supports 720 and 1080 the game will display in 720 because thats what it was made for...however if you have a tv that only supports 480 and 1080, and doesn't support 720, it will render it in 480 because of the lower resolution...
You can try and force it to upscale by selecting 1080i only in your ps3 but i could never get that to work it would just set to 480 if i deselected 720 |

Your TV probably doesn't support 720p, it's common with very old HDTVs. The PS3 has had issues with supporting 1080i on those TVs since launch. The short version is the devs have to do something special to support 1080i, so some games don't do it. When that happens, a 720p game will run at 480p even though the TV supports 1080i, even though you have the right component / HDMI cables.
So yes, they could support 1080i. It's supposed to be pretty easy, but it does use a little extra memory so they'll probably save it for later. It'll be scaled, but it'll definitely be better than 480p. |
