it would be so good if we could equip sentry guns in our equipment spot. they could be deployed and stay in a stationary spot and give slight damage to enemy players. of couse they could be destroyed by shooting them repeatedly. would be great for back up for snipers to protect them from behind. or while your hacking an objective. |

To have it in an equipment slot would be a little OP I think, but perhaps a deployable small turret that can be called in & moved to location would work. |

An auto firing cannon would be OP in my opinion, but I would like to see a small turret deployable as a vehicle; you pick the place where it will at, then an RDV swing by to drop one off. This is just a standard turret that someone can operate, basically like an immobile turret for the LAV. |

Should be easily visible and extremly low health with slow turning and short range. Otherwise it would be OP. |

Could also be useful for defending someone operating one of them for a enough time to allow them to get out and kill them (If the sentry hadn't already) or at least run away. Just because we already have a certain form of something doesn't mean we can't add another.
To prevent them from becoming overpowered, however, I'd say give them a three minute "battery" life, a decently small amount of health and the damage, of course, being set by CCP to where it's balanced. Other than that I like the concept but who knows. We might just have to stick with those big whales we have already :P |

This is terrible.
This game doesn't need pet classes.
ie you do nothing but deploy and the computer kills your enemy...
Bad game element. Bad Idea. |

We already have AI that kills the enemy. And what in the name of names gave you the idea that it'd be your main source of attack. Sentry Guns throughout the gaming world are used as a defensive unit to watch your back while in a firefight. They are also used to create killzones, traps, etc.. I have RARELY ever seen, except for in TF2 and CoD, a sentry gun being plopped down on the frontline. For you to think of this as it's main use just isn't sane.
There are among MANY other ways that Sentries are used. And some of them will make this game even more tactical if implemented. You need to think of ALL the possibilities before you tear something that has hidden potential (But not hidden. You just wont look for it hard enough) down. |

Won't this be under installations? I already assumed you would be able to call in the ones the size of garages, but one the size of a desk or chair would be nice, considering it wouldn't have infinite ammo, would take up a ton of CPU/PG space and would not last long at all without maintenance. You'd probably have to sacrifice your current clip to resupply it.
Then again, we'd need about, lets say, seven times the clone reserves if this includes grenade launching varieties accompanied by the possibilities of land mines.
Also, would it be interesting if Heavies could mount the heavy machine gun or forge gun so that others could use it in the inevitable event of their death. I am not saying it should be able to shoot by itself. That would be awful. |

CoD weapons are not weapons of the EVE universe. With installations coming soonGäó there's no need for tiny and easily overpowered turrets that only shoot peas and pillows compared to plasma spewing turrets and highspeed railguns that shoot rounds the size of your face and the monstrous weapon that we call the forge gun. |

I think this would be great it it were just player operated ONLY, no computer control.
EDIT: Hell, you could even give it limited ammo, and make it so it couldn't be picked back up if you thought it would be too OP as is. ANOTHER EDIT: Like a previous post said, make them basically immobile LAV turrets, we can have our choice of missile, railgun, or blaster, and it would not protect the user from being shot out, plus it could be hacked by the enemy. The person who deployed it would get +25 assist bonuses for any team-mate that uses it to get a kill. |

I suggest we change the OP from "sentry guns" to "Drones" and continue discussion.. clearly AI controlled damge has been in the EVE universe for a very long time.
I'd love to see little hover-balls (small scanner only drones) as equipment or even a light weapon slot item for scouting hostile territory.
Mechanical "pets" are a natural fit for the EVE universe and logical given the sophistication of Dust technology and tons of very practical uses that could be had. The issue is how to do so in a way that is balanced for a game that attracts FPS players who want 90% of the game to be Assault Rifles. |
