Seriously, what do?

EDIT: Turns out the new Chromosome build took out the Active Scanners because they aren't working.

It depends on so many variables, that unless you have lvl 5 scanners & profile analyst, expect it to only work on newer players. As most vets have a low enough dropsuit profile to go undetected. I have all the related skills at advanced lvls, & I get pretty reliable results. Just not against the higher lvl players. |

It doesn't work properly I've tried it with some friends sometime last week 1 of them a scout the other assault and the last one was a heavy they were standing right behind a building in Ashland got no results ; had them equip a load of shield extenders (which should be increasing profile sig. AFAIK and most of the Noob players *ahem* 'good players' *ahem* use them) Still no results, had them in my. Los , no results. |

I raised my profile analysis to level 5, but that is not enough to use the active scanner reliably. The performance certainly improves with profile analysis enhancers and long range scanners. My long range scanning skill is lvl 2. With that said, the active scanner still has limited usefulness.
1) Moving with a tight group is a must. As many of you know, an active scan comes at the cost of using your primary weapon. So, if you're running solo you're successful active scan will show you where your killer is coming from. Yes, you can change to your rifle or throw a grenade, but that is far from ideal.
2) Defensive positions or baiting your enemies are some useful scenarios for the active scan. But you still need good teamwork as discussed in point 1.
3) Spotters are an excellent alternative to using the scanner that dramatically reduces any need to use the scanner. You could make the argument that there is one less person for a team who could otherwise hack, drop nanos, uplinks, or revive.
I don't have a problem with points 1 or 2. CCP has never made it a secret that good teamwork will win a fight, plus it's good practice.
As for point 3, I suggest smoke grenades to block line of sight on open maps. This will keep the active scanner competitive with spotters. Unfortunately, this comes at a great cost to snipers and tanks in Manus Peak. Give the snipers different scopes, like heat signature, but without the ability to tell red from blue dot. |

I don't know if scanners are bugged or not. But they definitely work for me. I think people's expectations are too high. & players profile signatures vary greatly, so results are not consistent. |

As for scanners vs spotters. Unless I'm mistaken, enemies detected with scanners appear for the entire team. Where as enemies detected by spotters only appear for their squad. I have witnessed random blues in gun fights, & the red doesn't show up until they're in my LOS. |

BTW, you know the scanner is working when the reds blink on/off on the mini map. Some will stay exposed & others may disappear immediately. It just depends on their signature, & your analyst skills/mods. |

Honestly at this point,they aren't work the SP or ISK. From what I've seen thus far,they serve no real tactical advantage.Now maybe in the future when there are more people playing they will be more effective,but right now they are junk for the most part. |

tbh since we have skills that lower ur sig the scanners should be good enough to pick up ppl with skills maxed out to lower their sig
so a lvl 3 scanner would be able to still pickup ppl with those sig reducing skills maxed that would actually make them useful same with the scanners for vehicles which might need a bigger radius tbh |

We have a few armor tankers in SyN as u know, we make them work tbh but swarms are my worst enemy, just for the simple fact that gettin behind cover means nothing to swarms as they follow u around it.
A shield tank can still deploy solo and not have infantry cover as much but an armor tank pretty much needs infantry support cant wait till ccp re-designs swarms to make them something that actually takes skill

Yea once swarms stop going around corners and locking on through mountains then thats half the problem solved
If anything tho for the skill part of swarms they could make it so you have to keep lock on until the missiles hit but what happens when a tank moves through cover? they wont hit half the time if the tanker is smart |

Even with analyst skills maxed, a proto scanner & complex precision enhancers stacked 3 deep. A scout, logi or assault with maxed damping skills & complex profile dampeners equipped, can still go undetected. There are 2 skills that reduce your sig, but only 1 that reduces you analyst. I have yet to test the adv & proto vehicle scanners, But they only seem to offer better range not analyst, so they aren't anymore or less effective than the infantry scanner. |

thats why swarms need to be faster have the user have to maintain lock but increase swarm speed it pisses me off to see these slow ass swarms lazily track me around corners and still do alot of damage

But no way to get your analyst this low. The key is that very few if anyone will rock a proto suit with 3 dampeners. But the fact that there are 2 skills that augment dampening, but only 1 for analyst, means a stealth fit has the advantage over the scanners. |
