Welcome aboard Bloody,
Glad to have you here. Now from what i gather so far it sounds like your set on being a Sniper, which is not my forte but i have learned alot about it from friends and some small self experimentation. First off your using the Basic of Basic Dropsuit fits which you've no doubt gathered from the big "Starter Fit" text next to your Dropsuits name in the Dropsuit menu. This means your using the weakest of the weakest fits out there and while ultimately skill is what determines how well you do, having a better Dropsuit and fittings helps tremendously.
If you want more a better rate of survival you have a couple optoins available. I don't know you exact situation pertains to you dying before you get a shot out but i'll cover as many bases as i can.
Counter Sniping - If your being sniped before you can snipe then you need to get better at hiding in places where other snipers can't find you. Pay attention esspecially to what they hit you with. If they're using a Militia Sniper rifle like you are then you have a chance. But if they're using a gun with a name you've never seen then it's fair to say that even if you try to shoot them from a long distance your not going to be able to hit them unless you get closer. Which, needless to say, is even more dangerous and takes you even farther away from your original purpose.
CQC (Close Quarters Combat) - Just don't. In a starter fit, with a sniper rifle, it'll be a kitten miracle if you manage to kill somebody before they kill you. Unless your just godly with a Scrambler Pistol.
Vehicles - They're kind of the bane of infantry and designed to be as such so i have no real advice for them other than AV grenades. If you'd like you could search for my "How to take out a Tank, for Logibro's" topic here in the training grounds and see if you can adapt it to your situation.
The battle finder is Currently the ONLY way to access battles atm. You select one of the two available game modes that we are testing (ambush and skirmish) and it sends you into a match where there is room for you, be it a match that is almost completed or a match that is just begining. As a sniper who is just starting out i'm not really sure WHICH exactly would be better. In skirmish there are objectives that need to be Taken/Defended so you'll always have an idea of where to find targets, but you'll be competing with other snipers and there is usually alot of ground to cover and Vehicles to deal with. In ambush there are less likely to be Vehicles and other snipers but that is because no objectives means no reason to defend which means that everybody is going to be constatly moving and it's going to be more difficult to add a notch to your rifle. In the long run that might make you better.
As far as i know, there is not a way to change the Control Schematic for Controllers. I for one, approve of the default controls but can understand that everyone has a preference. Also, there is a way to change Sensitivity in the options portion of the NEOCOM but it doesn't change how fast your character turns in any direction. Only how the game reacts to your moving the analog stick. Movement in all forms is controlled by the type of Dropsuit you use. It goes...
Scout > Assault > Logistics > Heavy = SALH (scout being the fastest)
I hope my huge wall of text helps.
P.S. I can't provide any links. But i'm sure there is some Sniper Specific posts here in the training grounds as well as useful information provided everywhere here.
Again, Welcome to DUST 514 and i look forward to saving you from the icy grip of death SOON.
Keep the faith. |
