I often play solo when it's quiet during the day and thus end up in random squads but despite managing to do well enough to earn orbital strikes, the randomly designated squad leaders rarely use them. I put this down to two issues:
1) The squad leader doesn't know how to use the orbital strike
or
2) The squad leader doesn't realise he's squad leader - I always have to check by going to squad chat to find out and unless I'm lucky enough that this person has voice activated, there's no way to get his attention to let him know
Both cases would be alleviated if there were to be a simple and persistent notification on screen to indicate to the squad leader it is available for them to call in and how to do so.
Aside from this specific orbital strike issue, it would be sensible to have somewhere on the HUD an indication that you are squad leader, so those in random squads know quickly and easily. |

@Django: It might suffice if the squad leader sees a notification that he is leader during the spawn process. But in battle, it would be nice to have the squad list appear in the HUD with each member's rank and comm status (for now, the squad leader has the rank of corporal). Maybe a button to scroll through several dashboard items where the mini-map is displayed. Is L3 used for anything? |

squad leader notification would be great!
there have been times i didn't even know i was squad leader until i accidentally got into the rally menu while trying to switch to nanite injectors or repair guns.
also, is there a way to decline being squad leader to not even apply for it? |
