I was thinking about why missiles got nerfed, and what the problem was with them. I got to thinking- what did missiles have that no other weapon in the game had, which made them overpowered?
The answer? They had no limit to firing.
I'm not talking about how they needed finite ammo- blasters and railguns have infinite ammo, and no problem. But those had heat to limit how they fire.
It would be fairly simple to revert missiles back to how they were, except giving them a "clip". I'm still not saying limit ammo- just give them an infinite amount of clips with a finite amount of ammo in them. Small missile turrets would be able to fire 3 shots without reloading, while large missile turrets could only fire 2 bursts before a reload.
Not only does this end the constant stream of missiles, and force gunners to think, but this also allows for more variants of missile launchers- such as a variant with larger clips but slower RoF.

There's a real easy way of making missiles balanced: Give all vehicles finite ammo, then make missiles have the least ammo out of the turrets, then to balance the DS's, give them the least ammo for vehicles. |

no why so you can just keep replenshining? If theirs gonna be an ammo limit, I really hope CCP doesnt stoop down to this, all of you people are sad all you want is unlimited everything... no skill in this games players.

The nanohive would eventually run out unless it was a really good one, which makes sense why they cost so much. |

why? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy its a sillly thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. nooooooooooo theres an ammo limit for a reason, I can see being able to drive by supply depots and resupply that way atleast its balanced!
imagine a missle tank sitting high up on a mountain, glitched into it so nothing can hit it and all it does is rain down missle spam.. or it just plain in general rain down spam. |

Would think you could still have a limited clip _and_ a built in nanohive. But reloading should take time. (Not rich enough to buy a tank, yet...but I assume the problem is no reload time, at all.) My shotgun takes a few seconds to reload. Larger shells/clip should take at least a few times as long as a shotgun. |

I was responding to the guy saying that the built in nanohives are why it has unlimited ammo, and you didn't read my post, then think about it. Again. Anyways, there isn't a finite ammo count for vehicles, and that's a good fix for missiles/DS's. |

well since they have unlimited ammo they nerfed them since they were "too powerful and too accurate" but yet they were perfect AV weapons and perfect area denial weapons.. |

I'm jsut saying that it's a easy fix to the malcontents wanting our (the pilots) stuff to a oblivion, when There's a easy fix that I'm sure even the pilots would enjoy, and would even make the game feel much more realistic. |

yes a perfect unlimited ammo fix to something thats supposed to have an ammo limit not that it does but if it did, there would be a reason they wouldnt put nano hive in it. |

its not gonna happen sorry. If CCP does that, it wont last long when they realize how overpowered it is. But oh wait, I forgot vehicles are pointless. |

I think that vehicles have unlimited ammo because they haven't figured out how they want to do them completely. Supply depot? Ammo hold? They have several ways they could set them up. I think the main reason though is they're working on the infantry base piece still. |

They were nerfed because they had infinite range and covered all bases of destruction as you have pointed out DSF. Post nerf I now hear the chatter of small blasters as well as missiles. Still no rail guns yet but they prolly need their damage doubling so that they can be used to engage tanks while on lav.
Small missiles still seem effective at short medium ranges, to me its opened the game up more. while I appreciate that tankers like DSF, want to prowl round and solo win the game, but those days are gone, your tank needs infantry support, if you have none then it deserves to die, it's support gunners should not be sniping forge/swarms at infinite range. Those guns are for close support. |

Third. Even though I don't do vehicles it makes sense to have owner able to lock it. |

Nanohives don't manufacture matter from nothing. They have a finite amount of nano material that is formed into whatever ammo a Merc requires. It's strength is in its flexibility, not an infinite supply.
A vehicle requires only one type of ammo, so it makes far more sense to just stock it already manufactured.
The only way to justify infinite mass is a drop uplink fed from some other location.
Missile turrets DO have a cycle time today. It's just a bit short for most people's taste. |
