It's pretty good, worth the read. I'd suggest reading empyrean age first as its the prequel. |

Generally a good read, I thought.
It fails the "no outrageous coincidences" test for me (one of my pet hates), but only in a way that didn't really matter. I also found the ending a bit unstructured and unsatisfying.
It does provide a lot of background for playing Dust, and makes you think about a bunch of stuff that you wouldn't if you just think of it as a game. The author has also largely resisted the temptation to use the book as a guided tour of the Eve/Dust universe as was done with the previous two Eve books.
Once I'd got into it (its a bit of a slow starter) I found I was generally reluctant to put it down, so that is a good sign.
You won't need to read Empyrean Age first to understand it (though there is some backstory you'd miss out on), but obviously if you are going to end up reading both then you'll want to do so in the correct order. |

Thanks guys but what did you mean by saying 'a guided tour' is it a good sign or a bad one? |

I was warned off from reading anything but Empyrean Age and Templar One. I take that as a bad sign. As for Gonzales' books, they're not bad. I would call them enjoyably mediocre. Gonzales will be a good novelist if he keeps at it. I think Empyrean Age was his first one, and there is a marked improvement in story pacing, character development (still needs practice imo), and he got better at describing action sequences. Hope that helps.
You'll enjoy them both, though, so just read them! :) |

+1
Empryean Age just made me hate the Amarr more. The author mentions in Templar One that he took a lot of feedback from the first book, and I think it shows. He keeps the flow fast and concentrated. It really impressed me the second time through the book how intricately woven the plot points are, a lot of them I had missed the first time through.
Really hope they implement planetary invasions like it describes, a CRU farm item dropped onto a planet allows us Mercs to start the war there. |

I thought it was a pretty good read, especially if you already know about the eve universe a bit and are interested in learning more |

The first 2 Eve books rushed from location to location as they tried to cover all of New Eden. One covered all four hisec empires, the other all of the pirate factions. It felt a bit forced. |
