Dear CCP and fellow bunnies,
As I understand it is only courteous to provide some feedback after one has played closed beta for a while, so let me do it first in short: I am having a blast!
Last time when I was playing a FPS game was either beginening of CounterStrike or launch of first CoD -- one of those as I cannot really remember. To DUST I came because of love of New Eden, of course, and as I am not that great EVE player (I play two winter months each year, only) news of another game set in infameous CCP's universe made me thrilled. I waited for a right moment and finally bought PS3.
New Eden from the ground is fascinating. Colour pallete is excellent and of utmost taste. Atmosphere and whole feel is just brilliant. CCP at it's finest dispite all limitiation of the platform (and considering it is still beta). Simply: I just do not want to leave it.
Now, as much as having Sixaxis in my hands bring memories of PSone, and with all my wish to use it present -- I still chose KB+M setup (except when not on feet) for my playing. As my main focus is sniping/scouting, this was rather obvious choice, but I must admit that you have done wonderful job at balancing controlers -- there probably is none or at least slight chance that anyone is in advantage over someone because of what he choose. Also, that movment (turning) cap is also helping to promote more tactical approach to game (instead only practice+reflexes) and after all it is helping people like me who have almost forgotten what FPS is.
I could go on like this and praise every segment of beta, but who will read it. After all I am only three days old, my KB ratio is negative, but I give my best to keep competing from day one-- for example I premade few utility dropsuits and couple of damage ones, and tonight whole night I was withing top 3 players in my team by WP earned in Ambush mode. I was jumping around like crazy, setting DUplink to my team near Supply node than quickly changing gear to set Nanohives, than to close combat or sniper damage mod (depending on map) with Nanite Injector present. It was wondefull to see, how game changes once we establish mini-base on map. And all this I played solo without mic (as I have to get me nice headset soonish)!
Yes, it is difficult, but in very positive way. I die a lot, but also with little wits, one can really be beneficial to his team and earn nice SP/WP even if only 2-3 days old. I can only imagine how the game becomes when you are with group on comms, all wearing ADV/PRO gear and fighting for your turf. And when it comes out of beta!
Keep up the good work! And put some scan profile penalty to shields you dirty shield-lovers.

TL,DR;
Noob is euphoric about the game, nothing to see here. |

Hi! Welcome, and good to hear a positive opinion of the game from someone else (cheerful is often left to be my job, although I'm not the only one). Also, good to hear a NEW player who's not raging about "this/that/the other is OP! NERF EVERYONE BECAUSE I'M NEW!" like some players have been.
In addition, it's nice to hear this:

Firstly (and feel free to skip this paragraph), the grammar kitten in me has to come out and explain that "then" and "than" are two different words and you used the wrong one.
More on-topic, though... were you tossing your Nanohives down right next to the Supply Depot? I ask because I've seen this done before, and while it helps you rake in a decent amount of bonus WPs, it's nowhere near as useful to a competent team as providing forward supply points with them. Put Nanohives on the front lines, AWAY from something that will be constantly resupplying your teammates anyway. Supply Depots are basically super-Nanohives, so doubling up like that doesn't really help the team even if you're getting WP for it.
You sound like you're a lot better at the game than most of the "blueberries" I've seen ("blueberry" is what people call random strangers on their team, because most such players are marked with a blue dot instead of the green that marks a squadmate). I'm not meaning to sound like I think you ARE doing what I was asking about in the paragraph above, it's a legitimate question about it, because I've seen a lot of players using this "tactic" to farm SP from teammates without really helping out much. Some do it because they don't know any better, but some experienced players do it on purpose to pad their stats and pseed up the arrival of their Orbital Strikes. |
