It's been probably close to two months since this build has been released. At the very beginning there was a number of threads with the quick verdict: Scout is dead.
I have played as a scout this whole build with intermittent success. I do failry well on closed maps where I can jump around corners and have an upper hand since scout has a lot signature and other suits dont pick you up on HUD unless they see you.
On large open maps I end up wiping the floor, since an hust of wind takes my hp down to zero and silently closing in on a target as a scout with a shotgun is a risky proposition.
Anyway, thought I'd summarize my experience here and see what other ppl who play scout think. I would like to discourage ppl who play scout as a driver or a sniper from posting here though because those applications of scout have little to do with perforance of scout suits in direct combat. |

As a frail logi with a tac assault rifle, I can tell you I like nothing better than scouts.
Radar is a tool, not a crutch, and if people actually looked around, most scouts wouldn't stand a chance. I don't kill many heavies, even the better assaults. Scouts? Nearly every time. They (generally speaking of course) don't understand the range of their gun.
They'll get too close, and a simple sidestep causes them to miss, at which point they've got 5 or 7 hip shot rounds in em already from my tac. = D
The only other "class" I'm as happy to see is a sniper who's still in range of my tac. Especially a "kneeler" who thinks I'm another sniper. = )
At least that's my experience. Eyes open, communicate with your squad, and those scouts will usually not get anywhere near you. |

Scouts aren't that bad, especially if you use them for observation, flanking and long range engagements. Their small signature radius makes them easy to overlook and they have mobility in spades. The scout, like a lot of the weapons and equipment is a niche fitting - it really shines when you take advantage of it's strengths, and performs like a polished turd if the enemy capitolizes on it's weaknesses.

How many scout suits did I see in the tourny ?
None..well maybe one or two that dropped uplinks real quick before changing out to a useful suit.
I consider myself capable in a scout suit and if I'm honest I still love them however they are not a tool worth bringing to the table 90% of the time. Its basically the same speed as an assault type 2 so honestly whatGÇÖs the point. Not to mention I have a logistics with faster sprint speed and 2 x the hit points.
Only reason I donGÇÖt rage over this all day every day is because IGÇÖm holding out a glimmer of hope for stealth tech thatGÇÖs not in game yet.
Inb4 I go 10-5 in my scout suit all the time well an assault holding a shotgun can do that also.
Out of interest hands up anyone out there in the top 100 on the leader boards and is 100% scout? Redline scrub sniper scouts donGÇÖt bother posting no one cares about you and your pathetic brethren. |

At first I hated the scout. After a corp member of PFBHz and myself took sometime to mess around with the scout. We've figured away to make the scout good again. I ran scout for all the builds but this one. Thing was, most of those builds I was copying others loadouts and not thinking of how to build my own build. When my friend and me set down and put our heads together though, we've found away to make the scout into a beast suit and almost kinda op in away. |

A good player with a well-fitted and well-skilled ninja Shotgun Scout can get behind enemy lines and cause havoc. With a bit of luck going their way, a good Shotgun ninja will be able to wipe out several players without being spotted, and if they are located, they'll get away from the area before anyone can hurt them effectively.
It's high-risk high-reward, but when you know how to do it well, it's a huge benefit.
Also, Scouts can often get into places other suits can't, and can reach undefended points quickly enough to get the hack before reinforcements arrive.
EDIT: Also, best platform for an Uplink fitting - fast and hard to see. |

I've seen this guy in action and he's always against me in a fight. Gotta be one of the scariest feelings in DUST, when you know somebody is hunting you, but he's really fast and will take you out in two shots. I get more worried due to the fact my suits cost me nearly 100k ISK "SHITSHITSHITRUNNN"

This.
My favorite thing do do with a shotgun scout is sneak around behind enemy lines in Line Harvest (when the enemy is on the C/D side), shoot any guys near the blaster turret installation, hack the installation, use that installation to destroy the other turret installation, then go to town on enemy infantry.
This is definitely a situational thing, but I expect things like this to be more common after we have player-deployed installations. |

Once hit detection is fixed scouts are going to be in for a rude awakening. You guys don't know how many deaths you avoid because shots that hit you don't get registered as a hit due to some flaw in the game. |

Yeah, that''s right. Ninja was originally just a nova knife alt but I got sick of the awful melee hit detection. It's been a lot of fun since switching to shotguns now. |

Pure scout player here. Only I use the knife. I rarely use a gun and even then it is only to get away as I plant a drop uplink. I then respawn with my knifing fit which is fast, can reach near impossible hills, and penetrate the red zone deeper than any other suit could. |

Because of shotgun.
Boring suit that only works with one weapon system is boring.
Ok how about any in the top 200 that are pure non sniping scouts ?
I can think of a few and they are all shotgunners bar maybe 1 whos also an assult. 2% at best maybe ?
Its the least seen suit on the battlefield for a reason.
Hmm plenty of +5 KDR guys out there with assults and hvys how many even +3 or +4 KDR non sniper scouts do we have here ?
if your +2 KDR scout sing out because I doubt anyone else will be.
At a competitive level they have very little going for them.
Ow wait silly me we should be scouting right. I enjoy watching others fight yea thats fun. |

Scouts have the most limited roll out of any suit. They surpass other suits only in that they reach the objective faster in the beginning of the match but after that they have no chance of defending it. I have said it before not much the scout suit can accomplish that the assault suit can't surpass it in.
I am hoping cloaking and EW fix that, but til then your options are limited to just about shotgun only. If you want to run with an assault rifle, Sniper, mass driver, smg, scrampler pistol, ect. assault suit would be the far better option. |

suit profile. This is one of the stats that decides whether or not you get highlighted with a red chevron.
All suits have a scan profile and a scan precision stat. If a suit's scan profile is lower than the scan precision of an enemy player then they won't get highlighted as easy.
Here's the native scan stats of the suits - keep in mind that these numbers are before you factor in skills and mods.
heavy precision - 65 profile - 65
assault precision - 50 profile - 50
logi precision - 50 profile - 50
scout precision - 45 profile - 45
so you can see that scouts have a better chance to not get lit up with a chevron for all the other team to see. |

IMO scouts need to be able to fit something tantamount to a cloaking device (or semi-cloaked) that has a larger cpu/pg requirement so that you can only use certain smaller weapons with it, making the scout more useful in sneaking and evading.
I'd also like to see a prone position. I don't get why CCP didn't add this in. Prone helps people go undetected when it counts all the time across any game you ever play... |

Thanks, for all the comments! This turned out to be a lively thread that I hopped it would be.
From my ow experience I tend to agree most with Sha Kharn (He had a very objective way to illustrate that scouts are inferior). I would not say that scout is bad but it is just not competitive against other suits, it does not have as much going for it as other suits do.
I think GIZMO is a really good scout. I was playing against him the other day. Looks like he got mad speed and Shield regen packed in his suit - not sure, is it proto? And he runs the suit with an AR, so overall he does pretty well.
Beyond this, the other guy who I thought was good is a classic shotty scout. His name is something like "Jackal".
I myself run militia scout with breach shotty most of the time and have my lucky games but I gotta tell you it's hard to be good as a scout. You gotta try to use you mobility to sneak up on ppl from their back. But in a fight with a competent corp where ppl move around in squads and watch each other backs I find myself powerless.
And just to throw out there my favorite pet peeve: simple Breach Shotty does not drop a heavy suit in one shot!
Thanks for commenting, ppl |

Who-¦s STELLI0S ?
He is a true pain in the ass. He runs shotgun scout, i hate seeing him on the other team. I was hoping he switched to something else with the new build, because i got really good at running backwards only because of him.
But this build he doesn't get as annoying as in the last one, because hit detection got better and its easy to kill scouts now. |

Scouts are fun when the game is working in my favor.
Many times have I ran up to an assault person and shot my shotgun 3 or 4 times and it's like they're intangible ghosts. Then they turn around and demonstrate why they are not ghosts. |

Well, thanks for explanation. But it seems that this build his technique does not really work. A lot of ppl quit scout this build because of the nerf. So, I guess what I am trying to emphasize is that this build made scout a paper target for shooting practice. |

You really never saw him play lol. It works and man, how it works. STELLI0S going 30-1 in a round with shotgun scout only is a pretty common sight. BTW, like Unit-775, i also learned how to run backwards by having him as opponent. Killing him is always a personal achievement. |
