Sat down to play Dust 514 for about 20 minutes the other day. Some notes and associated requests based on experience:
- Time lag between launching game from PS home and actually getting to play is absurd. Why do I have to keep agreeing to the same NDA and viewing the same notes? I know I'm joining servers administered by CCP, stop telling me after I agree the first time! It's a little thing but it frays the nerves after a while. By way of comparison: I'm confident I could load BF3, quit the game and be back to the PS home menu in the time it takes to get to merc quarters in Dust.
- Joined first game. Before I've even spawned "You have been defeated".
Joined second game. Before I've even spawned "You are victorious". Come on now, that's just silly. If the tickets are below a certain threshold in a game don't queue us into that game. It's a simple ask but a very frustrating problem.
- Join third game. Ready room finished loading, instantly throws me out of the ready room and start loading the map. A waste of time loading me into the ready room. Either let me choose to skip the ready room or let me load into the ready room and deploy when I'm ready(can start loading the map in the background perhaps).
- In third game, get fragged. Nothing new there, but someone resussed me before I had a chance to respawn. Resussed me in the middle of a killing field. A prompt didn't appear asking if I wanted to accept resuscitation. Not sure if this is a bug or by design. Sometimes I'd like to not be resussed (like in the middle of a firefight).
- Market Place - Viewing gear I want/need, I can see that I don't meet the prerequisites on the item information but I can't select those skills to bring me to them in the market place. Navigating through the skills menu in the market is a nightmare, you should hotlink the prerequisite skills so that we can buy the necessary skills books on the fly. Also, when we buy skills ask us do we want to inject them if we do not have them injected already (that's a no-brainer).
- Still in the NeoCon. Trying to navigate through the weapon skills is a disaster, it's just a big laggy list. Divide the 'Weapons' skill menu list into sub-categoring 'Light/AR/Shotguns/etc/etc'
- When viewing assets should be able to interact with assets, particularly give the option to 'Inject this skillbook'
- Fitting GUI - Too slow, too clunky. The FPS drops to nothing while the dropsuit fitting screen pops up. I'd rather have a spreadsheet view run smoothly than the clunking GUI we have. It looks nice in EVE but I'm not sure if it's necessary or advisable in Dust.
- All fitted out and skilled up. Join game four. Ambush, mission: wipe out the other team. It's close, we drop to 0 reinforcements and the game ends. Ok..... hang on. We still have soldier on the field, they only have a few more clones in their reinforcement queue. Shouldn't our last standing troops have a chance to finish off the enemy? Their objective was to wipe us out but there were some of us still standing.
- Checking the scoreboard during a game my FPS drop to the floor, is it only me or is this a real hog? Breaks the flow of gameplay.
- When restocking a dropsuit it seems to purchase 1 more of everything in the dropsuit, is that right? If so, it should instead restock the items you are lowest on only. Like if I'm low on Laser rifle but have loads of everything else, just restock the laser rifles.

All good points, but these two stand out the most for me. The game is ridiculously slow to load. There are times when I've got a spare 20 minutes and I think to myself "shall I fire up the PS3 and have a go on Dust. Nah...20 minutes aint long enough!" It's the whole waiting to load, waiting to get into a game, game got into has already ended, wait to get into another game, game half way through and my team are being redlined..........before you know it, 20 mins has been eaten up with pointless gameplay.
And before anyone comes back with "It's a Beta" - I know it's a Beta, but these things mentioned are fundamental to any FPS, and they should be sorted from the start. |

True. This game is not really designed for a quick drop in drop out. |

1. I agree, it eats up a lot of time and seems like there should be a simple solution to have you accept once rather than every single time. For my it's further compounded by the fact that most of the time when I finally select a character it boots back to the start of the whole sequence and I have to do it for a second time just to log in once.
2. 45 seconds in a match can be game defining, personally I would rather wait a little longer on the war barge than be dropped into games already in progress. You risk gear for those games but the fun, SP, ISK, etc are all less.
3. Loading in the background sounds nifty.
4. I wouldn't worry about this too much, getting revived preserves your gear and the team clone count so unless you're simply focused on KDR the current revive system actually covers most of the bases (because it doesn't cost you anything of substance if you're revived then killed). Of course the targeting for the nanoinjector could use some polish but that's it's own thread.
5. You can purchase the skillbooks directly from the gear screen and inject them on the spot. Of course this only applies to the direct requirements not the sub-requirements, so expanded functionality would be nice.
6. Having skills divided into associated categories would be nice (so any fresh player could just look and know things like "which are the light weapons" etc)
7. Would be nice.
8. I think it's good as is. Needs to be optimized of course but I think that's coming (I guess this is one of my "it's a beta" answers :P ).
9. Yeah that would be more intuitive.
10. I'd be down for faster load times here :) (tho it does sound like the loadup is rougher on you than it tends to be for me).
11. It'd be nice to have the option to turn this type of restock on/off.
My 0.02 ISK

true. But I might want to be revived and save the cost of my gear, but not at that moment when all a player sees is a 60wp prize. |
