Watch out for enemies more, and they'll be more visible, vehicle or otherwise. |

Yes, we understand that the current radar system works by line of site. But it needs to work by sight AND sound. It's pretty ridiculous that a tank can sneak up on you from around the corner. Isn't that what black ops variants are for? If you can hear it, and it's in line of sight, you can look around to see where it's coming from.
If it's being sneaky-sneaky, then it's doing a better job than you. |

If it's not in the line of sight, you cannot tell which direction it's coming from. Forward, behind, left and right, who knows? I should AT LEAST be able to detect which direction it's coming from. It's not as simple as "it's doing a better job" than me. It's a wonky game mechanic that doesn't make sense and makes deaths feel cheap. Similar to silent LAVs running people over. I'm not quite sure why you seem to be against this idea. When I said "in line of sight" I actually MEANT "in line of sight" not "in field of view" - If you COULD see it when looking the right direction, but aren't looking in the right direction, that's not the game's fault. Look around more.
If you're not watching your back, and don't have someone else watching your back, expect tanks to show up there occasionally. Also, Shotgunners, SMG/AR guys, and... pretty much anything that can kill you.
If you got snuck up on by a tank, YOU SCREWED UP. Simple as that. Possible exception of spawning in front of the tank, but then, it didn't really "sneak up" so much as "get lucky" in the same way anyone else can with a bad spawn. |

Um, dude, I don't think you understand what we are talking about here. I think there is definitely some miscommunication going on. The issue that we are talking about is very specific/situational. And it probably happens 10% of the time when tanks are in play. The issue is: when the tank is completely "under cover" as in, you cannot see it at all because it's behind a wall or building, it is essentially impossible to tell which wall/corner it's hiding behind unless you can see where it's shots are coming from, if it is shooting at all. (And when I say "hiding", don't take it literally. It's a joke. I doubt anyone is actually trying to "sneak" in a tank). It doesn't matter if you look around because if you did look around you would not be able to see it. Unless you have xray vision. We know the tank is close, we can hear it. But it is impossible to see it. Our decisions are a matter of luck rather than any type of thought. So it's not that the tank is "doing a better job" or we "screwed up", it's luck. Just. Luck. One guy just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. The other guy just happened to stumble across the right place at the right time. I'm not sure where you thought I was talking about "field of view" but I assure you that wasn't what I was talking about. We simply want the ability to detect vehicles in close proximity by using sound. That's all. You can tell a vehicle is nearby using sound. If it's not hidden from view (and therefore not a threat anyway), then you won't see specifically where it is, but you CAN narrow down the possibilities based on where you CAN'T see.
I don't see any logical or valid reason why they should hand you any more than this. And yes, tanks sometimes DO sneak up on people deliberately - I've done it before. Great fun having Blaster fire coming out of nowhere onto a cluster of enemies who were busy aiming in the other direction.
EDIT: Also, there's very rarely a situation where LAVs can "sneak up" on you unless you actively put yourself into a situation where you're vulnerable to having that happen. Stay in cover, and they can rarely get anywhere near you except by one or maybe 2 directions, so the "crossing the street" analogy is actually totally relevant to the situation. If you're out in the open, you're watching about a 90 degree arc at any point in time, and you can further that by not fixating on a single position. If you're NOT out in the open, you should be at least occasionally checking EVERY direction that enemies can approach you from, unless you know for a fact the location of every single one of them.
There's an issue with the volume of LAV engines, but that's totally separate from the "issue" of not knowing where enemy vehicles are because they're playing well and keeping out of your line of sight. Sorry for assuming you'd misunderstood me instead of assuming you were being a carebear. I'll try and remember for next time. |
