Overview: Name: VPR-1V 'Viper' Manufacturer: Kaalakiota Corporation, Caldari State. Magazine Size: None, Single Shot. Description: Obstensibly classed as a 'special operations pistol' the Viper is a single shot handgun designed to eliminate high-value targets quickly, and efficiently.
To this end it employs an armor-piercing projectile whose warhead is loaded with nanolysins. Nanolysins are a specific type of nanobot, programmed to attack and break down organic cellular structures rapidly, leaving only foul smelling organic fluid mush, clothing, and any implants of the unfortunate victim as the nanobots tear his cells apart from the inside out.
This round makes the Viper a controversial weapon, as the threat of widespread use of nanolysins is considered in and of itself to be a WMD. The Caldari response is that the Viper's nanobots only attack the target they are introduced to, and quickly go inert when the target is devoured, but it makes the Viper no less repulsive to some of the other governments in New Eden.
The Viper is single shot only, having to be reloaded after every round by taking out an inserting a new round into the chamber and closing the breach by way of a break action. Its propellant is an electro-thermal chemical ETC chamber at the rear of the projectile, launching each round like an unguided rocket from the barrel as they are fired, range is shorter than most handguns, shorter even than the scrambler pistol, but the weapon was designed for sentry elimination.
The effects of the round are invariably and horribly lethal should the round penetrate the armor (in other words, use against targets with low to no shields as a suggestion to how it works) becuase of the vicious cellular destruction that the nanolysins cause, there is no bleedout time for the victim - they are broken down by the nanolysins almost immediately should they fall victim to it.
This is tech introduced in The Empyrean Age novel by Tony Gonzales, only it was deployed from an aerosol sprayer to murder its vicitm in the novel. In the novel, the victim was converted to slime and cyber implants in short order. This, always, is a rough suggestion idea, and is open to feedback and either thrown roses, or thrown rocks at the reader's choice. ;) |
