2nd game last night, dropped in at the start of the fight, unusual enough in itself as I don't get much opportunity to put my speedy scout to it's best uses. So I sprint off and take two points, capping a supply depot and a few turrets on my way. Then I retire to a safe distance and prepare to watch one of the two points I've taken, a minute or two later and lil lonesome red dude comes to take my points over, he's using cover well and I have no clear shot. Red dude caps the point I'm watching and then retires to a hidey hole just around the corner waiting for the counter-cap team. Stupid blue sees the point get capped and wanders over, completely oblivious to red dot waiting to pounce. Mr Blue re-caps the point and steps away from the installation, at this point Mr Red decides it's do or die and emerges from his hidey hole to try and fill Mr Blue with hot plasma. Mr Blue nonchalantly strolls right across my line of fire right as I'm taking the shot, it must have passed within a few inches of his ear and neatly penetrates Mr Red, down in one, for a change. Mr Blue, still oblivious to the fact he just had a near death experience casually strolls off to find something else to do.
so, the moral of this story? You all have probably been saved at least once by "mr lonewolf sniper" and you didn't even realize.
I don't pad my K/D by sitting on a hill, most of the time I get assists as OSK'ing is nearly impossible these days with proto suits and what not.
Also, people should try sniping before complaining, these days it's like playing extreme range whack-a-mole with the demented witch from Chorlton and the Wheelies; dots be teleporting 5 feet that way and six feet this way, sometimes appearing curiously stationary when it's obvious they're not even there anymore....
I shot a guy in the foot, he died, full health, full shields, I shot him in the ankle and he died, what does that tell you about lag induced hit detection issues?
I'm not saying ALL snipers are useful, I've seen my fair share of redline campers and mountain pot-shotters, but you don't see many threads hating on assaults/heavies/logis. Give us a break, we save your kittens more often than you know.
