Only a side arm primary weapon slot is taken up by a camera WP aquired for pictures that people like pictures can be posted on the vid screen in merc quarters and purchased/sold in game to decorate merc quarters. |

Not WP, but how about ISK? This was a thing you could do in Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
Actually I approve, just as long as you have to sell the pictures and for ISK only.
As for application of this, I could see corps having a scrap-book of their "accomplishments" or stupid little photo-ops. |

Instead of it taking up a sidearm slot, put it as an equipment. And perhaps give it the ability to zoom in on far away targets? That way you won't have to sacrifice an equipment slot to fit a camera that might not even earn any isk for the photos you take? The zoom feature means that they can also be used as binoculars. |

If you allow neutral "war correspondents" into a battle, this would be a great way to bring the gritty war to civillian (read: Hisec dwellers) eyes. They would spawn in with this dropsuit and camera, then they could take pictures or video of the battle, so that their news corporation could run stories and sell them to The Scope. For live feeds, just go to the in-space Territorial Claim Unit (already exists), pick the battle you want to use, and it will pop up on the holo-projector that normally shows the alliance logo. For extra ISK/minute cost, the video can be fed to a TCU in a nearby system for others to watch! Battles deemed important enough by CCP can be fed to the CONCORD billboards across hisec as well.
The goal of this post is to take the "joke" idea of OP, and turn it into a brand-new, useful profession in New Eden. In-game news updates without averting my eyes from my ship would be something i'd pay good ISK for. |

I'd like to post a correction here to the idea, as stated by Zat, that my OP was a joke. I was 100% serious. This would be great. I must say I like Zat's additions to the role as well. I don't know how CCP would program them in but it would add some depth and value to the role.
Edit: Note that I never said that the photographer dropsuits would be neutral. All major mercenary organizations have PR wings and DUST mercs will need them too. The side arm is a nessecity in this role since people will definitely be gunning for the PR men. Who doesn't want to put a dent in the enemy's propaganda machine after all. |

First: My apologies on the joke part. Especially since, if full journalism like my additions were implemented, it would be a game-changer in both DUST and EVE.
As for your PR notes: Exactly. "Neutral" doesn't necessarily mean "non-combatant". Especially if a particular side wants to cover up some event to further their own ends, the journalists are going to need a form of self-defense. Having an AV ammo-type may allow the SMGs to provide that ability. Also, propaganda is obvious - I can almost guarantee that there is not a single media outlet on this planet (IRL) that doesn't at least color their reports to favor a particular side, if not receiving outright "contributions" from a political party. The same is going to be true with EVE, especially when 0.0 powerblocs are involved - That is part of the reason I even have in-space broadcast hubs, as public opinion is one of the strongest weapons a faction can have. |

Imagine Joker in Full Metal Jacket as a basis. Or Hunter S. Thompson if you prefer (my personal preference given these two options and yes I know he was a political and cultural "gonzo" journalist but just imagine if he ever acted as a war correspondant). |

"I'm sure the rest of your team will appreciate having a photographer along taking pictures while they try to overrun an objective, instead of a person fighting and helping to win."
It's a neat idea for an individual player, but is sort of a liability to your team.
Why not ask for a screenshot button instead, and fight in a regular suit like everyone else?
You'd get better pictures that way anyway, and be more helpful to your team.

By "neutral" do you mean people who aren't registered to be fighting for either side? If so, then it would be insanely easy for a corporation to get info from behind enemy lines in a corp battle. All they would need is for someone willing to do this and to make sure that person gets to be a war correspondent, then make a chat (in the neocom) with that person and they can just follow the enemy around behind there lines and provide intel to the corp through the chat. |

The photographer would not be totally unarmed. They could still capture points, kill etc... they just would have a little less power since their primary role would not be combat. The photographers would earn isk (from selling their feeds/images) which would also help recruit players to the corp. This is a much more advanced role and simply blasting other folks.
A photographer would also make a good gunner/LAV driver since they would be able to hop out and take pictuers as time permits. |

REALLY? This is the best thing that you could come up with outside of the plethora of technical issues and other things for the dev's to work on? |

Kazeno,
We all know that there are a ton of technical and basic game play issues, and we definitely want those fixed first. We also want all the basic game features.
This is a request for down the line. No need to get angry about other people dreaming up features. |

That's why you can shoot them if you wish. Journalists have nowhere near the logistical ability of militaries, so their clone count is very low - and can never be infinite. That way you really can wipe a pesky reporter off the battle map should they be deemed spies. If the "correspondent" is lurking behind your lines, then that's pretty obvious... Don't forget people are going to infiltrate corps and do exactly what you described anyway! |

lol YES 8D
cept they wouldnt be able to be shot at or even hack objectives they would just run around taking pictures/ being able to pay a certain fee of ISK on the spot to start uploading live streaming, first person style footage. |

Yes but that takes time, effort, and they run the risk of being found out and "disposed of", either that or they would feed them misinformation to trip up the corp they work for. This method could be done on the fly and with little to no effort. |

If a third game comes to New Eden, this is a perfect example of how we could open up the genre. As it is however, it does have merit, though it would have to be more in depth than a simple camera or drop suit. Maybe photos of a wanted person or a way for the MCC to see sights on the battlefield?
This is the seed for something with a lot of potential, I hope CCP can at least think about making this a fun side game or something. |
