Also, I wonder where the assault rifle and red dot sight from the E3 2011 trailer are? That trailer was so sick, if DUST 514 played like that I would poop myself. |

we have "long range" optics, what we are missing is close in optics so when your at the in between range your not forced to shoot from the hip and loose the scope fired bonus (assuming there is one). This usally in other games also knocks the sensitivity down or similar allowing for better aimed shots when zoomed.
I'd like to see each rifle we have now tailored to some sort of optic, a burst rifle with a reflex or red dot style like the SMG has would be ideal closer in. Slower ROF weapons with the type of sights we have now and cheaper variants with ironsights because they would obviously reduce your ability for quick sight acquisition down range but closer in good to go....then again depends on the type of iron sights we would be looking at.... M16 style carrying handle or a fixed point and shoot type. |

I really don't understand this obsession with ironsights. I can't think of any situation where I would pick them over a red-dot sight or some other more useful optics. What's the appeal? And how the hell do you even use ironsights or red-dot when we have completely enclosed helmets with no visor that use an internal display fed by cameras?

I dont care tbh. I would be just as happy with space vietnam. I like the cool, out of the box weapons, but there is a place for conventional looking sci fi weapons.
I think there might be an over obssesion with being "too unconventional", where its not good enough to have a space gun shooting bullets, its gotta fire LIGHTNING!
What I am saying is, its okay for there to be a mix of things. Cool, out of the ordinary stuff, and then run of the mill combat weaponry. I liked the E3 rifle, especially the holo sight, and I don't see why it can't be included for the sake of diversity. |

because iron sights increase your view range.. Im sick of staring down a scope to ADS ALL THE TIME, it dosent give you anything but tunnel vision.
Also will increase playability factor, scopes are for snipers, AR scopes are pointless. |

I like that AR and many others as well it will come back imho if CCP is smart it was shown in one of the "Welcome to New Eden" videos so its still in there idk why we havent gotten it back yet
id much rather as i stated before have full blown weapon customisation than just them lazily adding an iron sight ver of the guns we got now.
Let ppl play how they want with the guns they want.

hate them for purely bs cosmetic reasons and not practical ones
example: "OMG! i dont feel like im like totally immersed in this game i need to see my character bring the gun up to his face and have it tunnel vision me lookin through some cosmetic scope that really isnt better than the previous camera sights"
dont get me wrong i like me some kool looking sights but if i only had 1 choice id choose camera sights for the benefit of seeing more.
hence i want proper weapon customisation so i can pub around with some "kool" sights and when its match time have my camera sights and srsly need to change the sights on smgs....god awful |

Not a fan of iron sighs. But rather have "RDS" than camera. Although, I am quite used to them now. Just thinking....attachments aregoing to make our guns and dropsuits more expensive. So, hopefully, there is some advantage with the use or iron sights, RDS, or other attachments |

Adding full blown weapon customization should be the goal. I like iron sights not only bc some people prefer them but also bc it is the basis for a progression of customizability. In other words, to have a choice of sights you must first have no sights (iron) |

RED DOT: covers up target, fast on target - nearly point and shoot, situational awareness, has batteries HOLOGRAPHIC: aim through to target ("ghost like crosshair"), fast on target - nearly point and shoot, situational awareness, has batteries ACOG: Will obscure target, allows for quick sight picture down range, allows for multiple markings for range, easy to get tunnel vision, always on, no power needed radioactive stuff inside.
IRON-SIGHTS: covers up target, fast close in/slower down range on target, click click click for range, possible tunnel vision, great for moving targets at range, no batteries!
Having actually used weapons with a variety of sights "IRL"....
Sniper rifles needing to settle does a pretty good job of simulating all that is needed to line up a long range shot w/o getting to fancy with it and since like you said it appears our helmets are closed I would imagine some kind of "closed back part camera cap" or what not on any scope or sight would do a fine job of eliminating having to line up the sights.
The Camera sight, if you've noticed, is some kind of fixed sight on the rifle, not just a suit thing, and makes sense since you actually "see what the rifle sees" in this mode. What would be neat is maybe an animation or something that shows a bit of a wobble or something as you steady it, or more of an on the move stabilization penalty....
Adding that would give an advantage to closer in style of optics and "alert" type of thinking and movement.
Honestly I doubt any troop would be issued ironsights on the battlefield (and actually most arn't in earth 2012) if it weren't for budgets and cost (there we go market market market).....there's plenty of other optics that take its place just fine, the 2012 US Marines pretty much use an ACOG now. However for moving targets, Ironsights seem to be favored....however reflex/red dots fill that role too....but all love the ACOG.
It would be nice to have thermal sights or similar, I have no idea what our suits cover up in that respect though, for all you know our suits have thermal dampening (future skill/module?) that matches suit exterior temperature to surroundings.
In all honesty, taking out "obtaining sight picture" from the sights you lose the real world aspect and advantages so really they are all good thanks to our suits camera and sight positions, maybe the answer is Zoom level changes and cross hairs.
"Old Mass Produced" tech rifles would be neat to see on the market cheap, "from stockpiles of discontinued weapons" or something. This is where the camera on the stock looking down the sights which we are all issued with each suit comes in hand, Militia gear expanded? These wouldn't be as accurate at distance because they are less specialized and more mass produced. |
