With just the N on the map in the upper left corner it is hard to use. Half the time you cannot find the N and when you do then you need to think about where its going to direct whatever you were going to, then by then its too late.
Fixes suggested.
1 have all 4 cardinal directions on the map
2 #1 and add option to rotate your dot on map instead of rotate map
3 by your armor and shield bar but a degree marker rolling around the HP indicators. This way you can vector which way your looking with every 90 degrees as a cardinal direction. would kind of look like THis (top part middle screen you can see the directions marked) but to also have degrees marked so you know how far in the middle of too directions you are. |

I like the idea of an OPTIONAL fixed-north minimap (Option 2), but I wouldn't want it forced, I'd prefer the rotating minimap we have now.
Adding a direction facing indicator like the one suggested in option 3 is also a good idea, but I don't think it's necessary, and would add an extra place to goo looking on the HUD, which is already pretty busy.
The suggestion of listing all the cardinal directions would add more clutter to the current layout and make things LESS intuitive than having only the "N" icon. You just have to look for an icon without needing to pay close attention with the current setup. If you had to look closely and figure out if it's the "N" or the "W" that you've found, that would slow you down even more. |

This is pretty much what I was going to say. If they change it, they better all be optional. I like how it is now, I can read a compass easily. In the time it takes me to say "something something is at..." I've figured out which direction it is, but I think I'd have more trouble looking at the 4 letters and trying to figure out which one says which. You don't have to read the N marker right now, you know it's N, it's always N, and it's always the only one there. If you add all 4, you have to waste time actually seeing what they say, and if you're not good with a compass, you might have to read all 4 before you find the one you want, especially if it's someone else calling something out for you. |

I really like #3, fallout games have it like that, and its much more useful than a compass on the minimap. If they are going to keep the compass method, I hope they add all 4 directions instead of just 1.

Wow. 2 people who WANT all the cardinal directions. Didn't expect that.
if they do, I HOPE it's not forced, because as mentioned, I'd find that worse, not better.

Number 1 would be useful but the others are unneeded.

I just want the N to be about 10-20% bigger so that it's a little easier to see at a glance. |

I like the idea of having all 4 directions instead of one (since I keep messing up my East and West)
I really really love the idea of having a bar or line compass
