The problem is the swarms are not going directly to the target. They fly to the dropship and then fly sound it and start following it.Which is stupid IMO.There have been many times a dropship is coming at me and I fire the missles they go towards the target then swing in behind it and start following it.If the missles do hit the target and the pilot looses control i dont get points because he crashed.I also know for a fact that stock dropships can outpace swarms by flying circles.Enough people fire at it you can see like 8 sets following this thing.I thought that was the point of the after burner modules was then you would be able to out pace them but a stock drop ship?No propulsion mods?
I also just had some random blue dot door gun for me.He did absolutely nothing I dont think out of the 5 games I flew a drop ship from the beginning of the match to the end that they killed more than 5 people. They shot at the MCC like idiots or were just sight seeing.Oh yeah whats the point of the drop up links on the drop ship again?I got no wp for spawns either.Wth.Out of the 5 matches I played I lost 3 drop ships to forge guns and 1 to an enemy RDV the flew into me.It was not like the previous builds and was a huge waste of time.Get this. I lost 3 to dumbass gunners shooting the ship and making me loose control. So while people may complain about them I think the guys flying them are morons. You are spending all that money to fly loop d loops around the battlefield. They are in no way as cool as they used to be.For everyone QQing the forums about them.Drop ships are dumb if you get killed by one it was just dumb luck.Just keep firing forges at them.Skill up your proto swarms and camp a resupply. You see a team mate with a swarmer dont abandon him give him cover from the enemy hes already trying to keep you from getting killed by it and them help him out same for the heavies.I joined a match this weekend where the MMC spawn was over run.Me and a forge went up there and owned then I dropped a nano hive so he could keep firing at the ds we reopened the spawn.....We didnt even use mic comms. We just knew what we had to do.
The only thing that I really see wrong is the flight pattern on the swarms ....that needs to be fixed ...bad. |

such a long way to say swarms vs dropships are broken and people in pubbie matches rarely work together. |

Never let blueberries into your ship. Join a corp and fly with a teamate on mics. It's also easier to fly with one gunner than try to give shots to two and will result in fewer ship hits by the unfavored gunner.
There are no working propulsion modules for dropships. The afterburner can only be fitted on a stripped down armor ship due to excessive PG requirements. The others can be fitted, but they produce no effect.
Swarm pathing is being addressed in the next build. We'll see what other changes will be made.
Don't troll the AVers, they know the issues. |

The afterburner must work to some extent because some players use them to get above the flight ceiling and onto the high towers to snipe and forge. |

Yes they are used to bypass the ceiling and camp towers, but no they don't work to avoid swarms as the OP suggested. You have to strip the ship of most defenses to fit what amounts to a heavy module into a medium vehicle that it becomes a caricature of itself. It's no longer useful for its original mission and becomes a very special use vehicle. |

There really shouldn't be a debate on dropships. I maintain that swarm launchers are not intended to be effective against them. Like many others have said they seem focused on ground targets instead. So the solution to dropships is simple:MOFO. More forges. That's all we need. Even if they fix the pathing I don't see swarms being the goto weapon for dropships. With the larger players base that arrives with the open beta and the final release I think we'll see a lot of this stuff balance itself out. |

Swarms are fine as is. It's alot more difficult to fly a dropship than it is to fire a homing missile into the air. Swarms work great against LAVs and HAVs, and with a forge gunner working with you they are great against dropships as well. If anyone thinks it should be easy to fire and forget to take out a dropship, they've probably never actually flown one.
Sure, the guys flying circles are lame, but not all of us dropship guys are so lame. Some of us actually do have some skill and fly the things with some actual finesse. What everyone seems to be forgetting to take into account is the eventual inclusion of installations and turrets.
The only problem with dropships is the fact that they have missile turrets, and missile turrets are currently broken. Fix missile turrets and dropships flying in circles ceases to be a problem. |

Even non-Militia Swarms struggle to take down a competently-fitted all-Militia Dropship with a terrible pilot. Swarm pathing needs work. When you're IN FRONT of the Dropship, and you fire up into its path, and your missiles ACTIVELY EVADE the target until they're behind it, then yes, there's a problem. If I can occasionally "dodge" Swarm Missiles by aiming straight at the guy who fired them, I'm not doing it right, and neither is the game that makes my idiocy work (in the case where this happened, I knew I could tank a couple of Swarm hits, but was focused on escaping the Forge Gunner who was trying to get a bead on me. I took 0 damage from either shooter).
It doesn't always happen, but it happens often enough to be something that needs work.
So does the random possibility of Swarms deciding to shoot anything up to 50m in a random direction before even STARTING to track. They fire forwards a short distance, then sometimes go to the target straight away, and sometimes go mental for a few seconds before tracking. And they track where the target WAS when they were fired, instead of where it IS, so they automatically go into a following pattern instead of aiming at the target. |
