Not always, but more often than not, someone shows up with a Forge as soon as they see the enemy bringing a vehicle.
It's also when I start bringing Swarm Launchers. |

[quote=Scheneighnay McBob]Small railguns (and large railguns, if the ship isn't too high to aim at) can do a pretty good job of downing dropships. The challenge with small ones is getting a set of shots in before someone takes out your LAV.
I got to be a passenger in a Railgun LAV a few games ago. They're not bad for AV use even while moving. You don't lose your shot randomly off in the wrong-est direction possible because the game feels like it, which is nice. And I got to down an enemy LAV which was spamming missiles all over. Guess his driver was throwing his aim off. |

Scheneighnay McBob wrote:Sounds great- I think the thing with shots being thrown off is that as far as shooting from a moving vehicle, dust has pretty good physics. I think the thing with missiles (and also a big weakness they have) is that these physics, coupled with the random fire pattern of non-accelerated missiles, make them very inaccurate on a fast-moving LAV. Apart from occasional times where a missiles will shoot off more than 90 degrees off-course, and times when a missile will fire off-course because the main turret is turning while your own secondary turret on top of it is perfectly still, the physics are mostly pretty good.
But as with the above examples, there's still some work to be done. Sometimes the shots go pretty crazy instead of deflecting in a logical (and therefore predictable) manner.
If it was "oh no, we hit a bump" throwing my aim off, then I'd understand. If it was ALWAYS "I forgot to account for movement" or "I thought I was aiming further off our movement direction" when I messed up with a shot I was trying to lead, then there wouldn't be a problem. But when the LAV is moving at about 90 degrees from the target, and I aim so my shot will arc with the movement and go straight into an enemy, but while in mid-air, on an angle where there's no way for me to see it happening and compensate, the driver turns - it doesn't matter which way, and we're in the air, so it doesn't affect our actual movement direction at all - but that SOMEHOW makes my shot miss so bad it looks like it fired from the back of the turret instead of the front? That's when I say there's something wrong. |

Also, while not the best AV weapon, Small Railguns do the job decently. Especially if you can keep your distance. |
