Sorry if it's been asked before, but why is there a bright orange marker above the enemy ? It would make more sense to have markers above your own side only for identification purposes but would it not be better to spot and highlight enemies temporarily as in battlefield 3. Seems a bit stupid having a glowing orange pointer above your head when you try to sneek around the enemy capture points.
Or am I missing something |

You mean the arrow? It means that someone either spotted that enemy or they did something to cause a signature jump. Either they fired at someone or they tosses a grenade etc.... |

          There are several factors involved.
  1. The target's scan profile. This can be reduced by using a smaller/lighter suit, by skilling into Dropsuit Command and Profile Dampening and/or with the use of Profile Dampener modules.
  2. The player's scan radius. There are skills and gear which improve this as well, and each suit has a "base" Scan Radius onto which your skills are applied.
  3. What the target is doing. As mentioned, shooting, throwing grenades and other actions will temporarily raise your profile, making you an easier target.
  4. Line of sight. Unless you're REALLY close to someone and shooting while behind a wall, they're almost never going to see you coming unless someone ELSE has eyes on. |

Makes sense now you say that.
I'm only a noob, so still trying to figure things out. Is there a skill or something that I can use to tell if I have been spotted so I can keep my head down as those long range powerful weapons are getting annoying, seems like I shoot a few feet whilst others seem to shoot clear across the map, slight exaggeration but you know what I mean |

Not really. I don't think it's something that has been added in. Though to be honest....if they can see you. You can see them. So if you're seeing red arrows the chances of them seeing you as red are pretty high. |

If they shoot in your line of sight, they light up regardless of scan profile. But if you're looking the wrong way, you're still screwed. Watch likely sniper positions, and you'll sometimes get a flash of the target as your crosshairs roll over the guy.
Even if they can shoot further than you, spotting a target can light them up for someone else with better range - or a better position.
Also, if you're not in cover, make sure you're moving, and try to move erratically so the target can't anticipate your position and keep their shots on target. |
