So far (I've just started using one on my alt too), the best advice I can give is that vehicles are WAY easier targets.
And don't stop firing until the heat gauge is past about 50%. It does LOTS of damage at that point. |

Myself and my corp uses quite a bit of laser rifles. Basically, you want to keep folks as close to the rifles max range as possible at all times, and also keep it as hot as you can. Get your heat up by holding down the trigger and once you get about 1/2 way up in heat start pumping the trigger to keep it hot. |

I just started using it a bit too and found it to fit my playstyle better than a regular AR.
For starters, it's most effective from long range, and like Garrett said in the previous post, great against vehicles.
It excels at taking out shields, but isn't as effective against armor, which is always the hardest part of using the gun. You'll take out their shields, but getting it to connect long enough to finish the job is what really counts. I also like to shoot it at the ground for at least a couple seconds so that by the time I hit the player, they don't have enough time to react and run away from it.
I'm not a pro, but I hope this helps. Obviously if you want to really do some damage put some sp into it, but as for me, I only use it as a replacement for the milita AR on the freebee fitting since it does decent damage against vehicles. |

My initial reaction is that the Laser Rifle is absolutely horrible.
but thats just knee-jerk from one match of using it. |

I run with it about 90% of the time now. I prefer it for doing max damage at range, plus no recoil. |

other day me and another player both had our lasers out on our side, always seemed that we went for the same targets all the time, lol.
guys were getting lit up by two lasers at once, from different directions.
Heh, i wonder what kind of damage an Amarr HAV laser tank will dish out. |

Try and stay about 60+ meters away from your target, that's where I find that it does the most damage.
Always carry a sidearm.
The laser rifle overheats with 21 bullets left in the chamber.
The ELM-7 never overheats.
The Visiam overheats with 2 bullets left in the chamber.
Overheating can and /Will/ kill you.
Always reload as often as possible so you have every single bullet to dish out damage with constant building fire.
For the first 20 or so bullets, /Miss/ your target, /Then/ pull your reticle onto him/her. This allows for a decent amount of damage to be built up before your target even knows you're there, and it hits them like a freight train when you melt them.
Carry a nanohive, you'll need it.
You are very affective against shields, therefore you're good against most of the vehicles you'll see on the field. Try and get in a position where you'll be hard to hit and where it's hard for them to move and you can completely wipe their shields in one or two clips. The best place for this is under 'c' and 'd' where they'll generally be hiding anyways from dropships and other tanks. I was able to solo kill a 4900 shield gunnlogi with my ELM-7 and a damage mod with this method and have brought several others to armor for swarmers to finish off with this method. A clannie and I who were rocking dual lasers nearly instantly knocked a dropship outta the sky as it did a pass over us.
Always run with other people, never try and go solo. Nothing hurts worse than losing your 100k suit with your Visiam because you tried to engage someone too close with your laser and their AR tore you to shreds with no one to back you up or act as a meatshield... |

Asking for advice on this. |

The Elm-7 is actually better than the Viziam as it's a lot cheaper and does almost the same amount of damage. The ranges are identical too. So you only need three levels of the laser skill as it doesn't do anything atm.

The above link has a bit of info on the damage stats etc so worth a read if you're interested. Lasers are getting sorted by the devs as they have stated, hopefully it will be done with the next build.
Oh and I almost forgot. Heavy + laser = awesome. You need a little bit of tank to go toe to toe with ar users below your optimal range and a heavy gives you that option. |

OK so i have been using the laser rifle since the start of the current build, and ive noticed a lot more people starting to use it lately so because of that ill share everything i know about the laser rifle, and what can be done to make it better....
SUMMARY: The laser rifle is a unique weapon in that it "stacks" damage, and has pretty much ZERO recoil. That being said, the initial damage the laser rifle does is very little at the start. Initialy the standard and advanced laser rifles start off at 15 damage per "bullet" (bullet = ammo count considering there really isn't individual bullets.....) each second that goes by adds another 15 damage per bullet. So this means 1 sec = 15 dmg/bullet, 2 sec = 30 dmg/bullet, 3 sec = 45 dmg/bullet, ect...... this works really well because lets say in 2 seconds you've fired 25 "bullets" thats...... a LOT of potential damage being delt.
STATISTICS so here are the statistics for the three laser rifles currently available.....
The Standard "Laser Rifle" has a stacking damage of 15, a PG of 5, a CPU of 53, a cost of 6000 isk, and it overheats at around the 20 bullet mark (meaning youve shot 80 out of your 100 shot clip). This rifle is effective, but not the best to use obviously.
The Advanced "ELM-7 Laser Rifle" has a stacking damage of 15, a PG of 8, a CPU of 72, a cost of 18,240 isk, and it never overheats. This rifle is questionably the best Laser rifle as it never overheats and costs literally a fourth of the prototype laser rifle.
The Prototype "Viziam Laser Rifle" has a stacking damage of 20, a PG of 10, a CPU of 92, a cost of 80,480 isk, and it overheats after firing it for 98 rounds in a row (2). This is my favorite laser rifle as it does the most damage and wont usually overheat unless your in a heavy fight.
USAGE As many people already know the laser rifle does its maximum damage at its maximum range, what most people dont know though is that the laser rifles basic range is actually less then the assault rifles basic range. Because of this its HIGHLY recomended that the "sharpshooter" skill be upgraded to atleast lvl 3. At this point it almost has the same range of a tacticle rifle and can melt people who don't even know your there. The laser rifle does better against shield then it does armor but this doesn't mean you cant kill things like heavys at ease. It is actually decent as an anti vehicle weapon as most vehicles in the game currently are "shield tanked" but that doesn't mean its gonna be more effective then your standard AV equipment, it just means that if you get good with it you might be able to take out an LAV or two if there being careless. ALWAYS have a submachine gun on hand because the laser rifle is literally useless at close range, and if your running it with a logi suit just make sure to have a decent squad running with you because obviously you dont have a side arm slot for those suits. Lastly i want to point out that by design the laser rifle is meant more as a "close" range support role. If your using it you should be on the outskirts of large engagements just picking people off from a distance and supporting the guys getting in close.
CONCLUSION ALL in all the laser rifle is a fantastic gun that can melt people, but its useless at close range and the upper teir versions of it can get expensive and hard to replace if you like to die a lot. However it really is a good gun and id reccomend everyone to atleast |

Be comfortable using a sidearm. I like using the toxic SMG.
Recognise when to back off and continue damage and close and finish with sidearm.
Carry your own nanohive.
Works best with a decent shield repair rate, damage ramps up fast so you can take brief cover-ducks to fully repair.
Both B and A can be solo guarded on the 3 point map, C is really good to attack. |

Pair scrambler pistols with it- once someone is too close for the rifle, they're in perfect range for the pistol (unless you have no skills, or put no SP into scramblers) |

You can rack up some kills with the Elm7 laser. just remember to fight with your brain when using it. it's a very fun gun when running solo. since most in beta run in groups and the laser is a big i am this way sign! it's fun to kill one out of a group then fall back, and set up to kill at the spot you was just at. |
