One game I'll do great with it and get tons of kills with it, take out a bunch of vehicles all is well. But then there are times when I'll be aimed dead on with 100% efficiency and I can't hit them to save my life.
I find that when that happens to me, it is usually because I am trying to shoot from too far away.
the Forge has some crazy range, but not THAT crazy.
also keep in mind that the Forge Reticule moves upwards at a pretty silly rate if you get hit with a bullet from somewhere. that affects my aiming as well.
thirdly, the Forge is not a instant-hit weapon like the AR and sniper and such. the projectile has travel time, and you need to compensate for that, Forge shots can be dodged.
lastly, the Forge Targeting reticule is pretty big, as it is meant to target vehicles, so hitting Infantry with that huge reticule is pretty tricky because you can be aiming the reticule dead center, but since the reticule is so big, it encompasses the areas around your target, so your shot might go around or over your target, even though you are aiming center-mass. |

The Polish Hammer wrote:All the main points have been said already. Once you get into the higher tier forge guns, it'll be a lot more forgiving on trying to take people out (both infantry and tanks). Damage mods are awesome too. Don't forget those complimentary skills (like sharpshooter, reload, etc.), they help out A TON once you start investing in them.
It's good that you're starting to peel back the aggressiveness of your play style. Heavy suits and forge guns are WAY too expensive to be being super aggressive with them.
Assault vs Standard:
I personally enjoy the Standard better because of being able to hold the charge. This especially works for dropships. When it comes to forge guns, getting every shot on target is absolutely necessary.
Yes. exactly.
being able to hold (and then cancel, if necessary) that shot is a insanely valuable flexibility. That is why I also use the basic style Forge Guns.
enemy sees my forge gun charging and runs/drives behind a building, I can hold that shot until he comes out.
holding the shot makes it easier to lead the shot also.
and as mentioned earlier in the thread, being able to charge the shot behind cover is quite handy.

Spec into sharpshooter first. Then damage.
Trust me on that. The range is more important. Especially when you start shooting at dropships.
Forge does plenty of damage as is.
I had ignored sharpshooter until recently. Got it to 2 now, and that extra range makess a significant difference when shooting dropships. |
