Not the melee's fault. Even if there was no default melee at all, it would still not make sense to use the Nova Knives (the weapons, not the you).

Right now, there is no point in using the Nova Knives. There's barely any reason to use actual melee weapons when bashing them with your rifle is almost as effective. There's something wrong when a fully specced kniving fit can be out melee'd by someone who hasn't trained hand to hand combat and is not using a melee weapon! Standard melee needs to be toned down. There's no reason that smacking someone does almost twice the damage of an assault rifle shot! (135 base melee damage + skills)

(sarcasm) That's 135 + skills. 10% damage per level, plus when you hit level 5 you get 50% from that skill and you can use 50% damage modifiers. It's not inconcievable to be able to punch someone for more damage than a sniper rifle can hit someone for, and be able to OHK anything except heavy suits. That's not right, IMO. At least with a melee weapon it's a little more acceptable because you're giving up a ton of range to get that power. But with a stock melee, you can still have a gun out and engage at range.

I got a good chuckle when I managed to survive all of those bullets, only to be taken down by a well placed melee

You were throwing bows like no ones business though.

I tend to agree that regular melee should not be as powerful as using an actual melee weapons. On the other hand, there is something gratifying about pistolwhipping some hapless sucker.
