One of the devs said at one point that the speed those travel at would have them constantly redlining in the environments we have now, so we're unlikely to see those until we start getting much larger environments to play in. |

"Constantly" redzoning? If they're moving that fast, then the current AV weapons aren't going to do jack-freakin-kitten when they are released! Clearly, the beta balancing just isn't going to work in the final release with such limited ability. And what's the point of a beta if that becomes the case?
A few ideas to rectify that problem without having to release fighters early
>Add Electronic Warfare - This system is a strong balancing force in its own right, as any merc pilot in EVE would attest to. It would also allow ground vehicles to counter a wider variety of AV systems, including those that would be preemptively added to shoot down the fighters.
>Larger maps - It seems clear that the largest maps, not the current "small" ones, would be most common in planetary conquest fights. This would be a better way to balance weapon ranges, as well as maximizing server load to stress-test netcoding. I should also mention that the MCCs are going to have to move somewhat faster than they already do in order to fill the RTS-commander vision.
>Flak-type installations - These would be air-focused, requiring attackers to hack or destroy them before bringing anything that flies into the enemy base. As it would kill RDVs, it would have a tactical bonus even now - forcing attackers to spawn any vehicles in their redzone until they gain a foothold. EDIT: I found one of my older posts detailing flak ideas |

I could see redzones being tackled the same way of free flight zones in Starfox64. You hit one and the ship automatically turns around.
While I would personally ride in something that handles like a helicopter, a plane would be neat for those who can fly them. Having to set a course towards a targets to get a shot at it or drop a bomb, that kinda thing. |

What if one day we got to play as the fighters deployed by carriers and motherships?
Dogfights in space as we zip around the gigantic Eve ships. |
